Bai Qian
I arrived to the river which holds that East Emperor's Bell just in time to see a group of celestial warriors surround Lord Dong Hua to protect him. I briefly acknowledge that the crumple of coral pink in his arms is my niece, Feng Jiu. That silly girl will go to hell and back for the ones she loves. The bell along with the river glowed red, as if there were already tonnes of dead bodies around it.
No doubt that would be the case if Qing Cang the ghost lord escaped.
I pulled the Earth deity back with my power, stopping him from running to his death, and also getting in my way.
He turned to see what held him back, and his solemn eyes landed on me. "Auntie".
"Step back!" I cut him short before running forward and launching myself into the air, coming face to face with the bell.
High winds blew towards me, and I felt my hair and gown flapping loose behind me.
"Si Yin, is that you?" The ghost lord's voice boomed through the bell, out into the air. Even with the wind, I still heard him loud and clear, as if he was speaking right in my ear.
"Exactly! Qing Cang, it's me." I replied, letting the rage of the last 300 years fill me. "I can't believe it's only been 300 years since I sealed you in the bell, and now you want to escape again?"
His evil, cackling laugh was the response. "I've been waiting for you and Mo Yuan, it was you and your mentor who had me trapped for 70,000 years. I'll avenge myself today and take both of your lives!"
"How arrogant." But just as I was about to swing my fan and attack, a force held both my arms in place by my sides and pulled me back to shore.
I whirled, determined to see who dared to stop me, when I saw Ye Hua.
I tried to wiggle free, but to no avail. "What artefact is this? Let go of me!"
He calmly replied, "There's no way you can defeat Qing Cang with your cultivation, let me do it."
Worry replaced all my anger. "You've transferred all your cultivation to my mentor, so you can't defeat him either!"
He ignored me and looked at someone behind me. "Take good care of her." And just like that, he took off and replaced my spot in the air while I hopelessly struggled against this unknown force holding me.
"Ye Hua! Ye Hua!"
I turned on the Earth deity I saved, failing to hide the tone of urgency and panic in my voice. "Untie me! He seeking his own death!"
"Don't panic, high god." His long white brows furrowed with regret. "This magical artefact is really weird, I can't undo it."
My panic only increased when I found out that even the mighty Lord Dong Hua couldn't help me because he somehow managed to lose all his powers.
A tiny thought niggled at me that Feng Jiu was somehow involved in that. But I pushed it away. I can't see or think about anything other than the fact that Ye Hua is pushing for his own death, to fight the ghost lord with hardly any cultivation. My heart felt cold.
When Qing Cang finally broke out of the metal prison that held him for over 70,000 years, he and Ye Hua pushed their fight into the sky. The thunderous dark clouds meant that I could see none of it.
At that moment, a small ghost army appeared to my left.
The Earth deity I saved bravely took on the dark armour cladded soldiers, taking out a large number of them despite his fragile appearance.
Just when he was about to be overwhelmed, my fourth brother, Bai Zhen appeared and saved him by hacking down a dozen ghost soldiers.
"Fourth brother!" I shouted, fearful that another person dear to me would be taken away today. But he didn't even hesitate once as I watched him cut down most of the army.
My attention was suddenly drawn back to the skies, where a large amount of lightening was gathered in one spot. Seconds later, two dark figures crashed on the shore, one just a few feet away from me. Suddenly, the binds holding me in place disappeared and the small mysterious artefact landed in my hand. I ran straight to Ye Hua's side, worry filled me once more at the sight of blood trailing from his mouth down his chin.
"It's not fair that I lost to you on this fight boy!" Qing Cang screamed, looking in a worst state than Ye Hua. "If it wasn't for the injuries from the war 70,000 years ago, and the damages to my spirit today by my treacherous son, I would never have been defeated by you!"
I could kiss Li Jing right now.
Ye Hua raised to stand, with me holding his arm when he swayed slightly.
"You were still defeated in the end." And with that, the ghost lord collapsed face first into the sand.
In the background, I faintly registered my brother making a small comment about how Ye Hua was still able to defeat Qing Cang even though he had barely any cultivation.
Relief flooded me at the thought of all of this being over, and I hugged Ye Hua close to me, glad that he is still alive.
Then, my short peaceful moment came crashing down as the bell of the East Emperor unlocked with a loud thud, and it grew in size as it prepared to devour the world, just as it nearly did 70,000 years ago.
That's impossible!
Ye Hua's face was full of anger. "Qing Cang, what have you done?!"
The old fool laughed as he staggered to his feet.
"All I did was make use of the past 70,000 years, to connect my life to the Bell of East Emperor."
I felt like I was punched in the gut. That meant that if he died, the bell would release all the crimson hellfire, consuming the world.
I witnessed the life leaving his eyes just before he fell down for the last time. In the same moment, people, no matter dressed in black or white, was plucked like insects and sucked towards the looming death of the bell.
Me and Ye Hua watched as they each fell one by one. Ye Hua's eyes changed.
The exact same look was in my mentor's eyes all those years ago, just before he gave his life for all of us.
No.
I can't let history repeat itself.
With the small artefact still in my hand, I decided to use it against him.
When he realised what I'd done, he looked at me with betrayal in his dark eyes. "Qian Qian, what are you doing?"
Instead of replying, I took one last look at his beautiful face and took off before my brother could hold me back.
"Qian Qian! No! Don't do it!" His anguished scream nearly damn well tore my heart in two.
"Come back!"
"Little sister, no!"
Pushing them all out of my head, I fly towards the mouth of the bell and inside it.
I will save everyone I love this time.
Pushing everything I've got, my powers, my spirit and my 140,000 years of cultivation all into the bell, I smiled when the whole bell was destroyed in one massive, bright explosion.
But my happiness was short-lived, for the pain that tore into me was unlike any other I have ever experienced. I felt my insides bleed at the sudden loss of my spirit, and couldn't help but cough up blood as gravity pulled me back down towards the Earth.
Then, gentle arms pulled me into his chest. I didn't even need to open my eyes to know it was Ye Hua.
"Qian Qian!"
When I did open my eyes, I wished I hadn't.
I could deal with the pain, I could deal with dying. But what I didn't know how to deal with was the look of utter devastation on his perfect face.
The tears fell uncontrollably down his face, and I reached up to wipe them away. "Don't cry, it's alright."
That only seemed to make him cry harder.
When I wanted to say more, more blood bubbled up my throat and I could no longer contain it as I coughed, staining both my white gown and his black silk outer coat.
He tried to wipe away as much as he could with his hand and sleeve, but it was no use. I felt more of my insides tearing me apart in order to find something, anything that could fill the void that my spirit left behind. The pain increased when my soul began to shatter; the price for destroying the bell.
Now all of my energy is used trying to keep my eyes open.
I have to tell him…
"Ye Hua, I want you to know…" I gritted my teeth as my soul continued to crack and splinter. "I forgive you."
His tearful and red eyes widened as he took in my words.
"I forgive you, Su Su forgives you." I smiled as tears began falling down my face too.
"Qian Qian, stay with me. You are the only woman I have ever loved, I need you to live!" He begged, he pleaded. It's almost comical. We're both gods, yet there is nothing we can do. "What is Ah Li going to do? What is Mo Yuan going to do?"
My heart gave one last squeeze.
"Take care of them for me." My eyelids got heavier by the second. "Don't forget me… like I stupidly chose to forget you for 300 years."
He shut his eyes tightly as the tears kept falling, but not before I saw the sadness and regret in them.
When I finally felt the last of my control slipping, I used all that I had to grab the back of his head and kissed him with all my might.
Satisfied that the last thing I remember was the feel of his lips against mine, my soul finally cleaved into a thousand pieces and I drifted off into the welcoming darkness.
