Hey guys! Sorry I haven't updated my stories in awhile; I haven't really been on top of that and I'm in a little bit of writer's block. I'll try to update as soon as I can! Anyway, let's cut to the chase. Recently I've really been into the original Ben 10 and I had this great idea when I finished the last episode "hey, what if there was a season 5?" So, here it is! It'll have some Mario stuff in it too because that's just the person I am. Hope you enjoy! Disclaimer: I do not own Ben 10 or Mario, just the OC I put into this.
Ben 10: Season 5 Episode 1 Part 1: Game On
Ben walked into English class, a little happier knowing that everyone in the school knew he had saved the world multiple times. He was especially happy that Cash and J.T were "too busy" to bully him now. As he slid into his desk chair, a girl walked into the classroom. She had bright orange hair and a blue shirt with a cat on it. Ben's eyes widened.
"You?!" he said, stunned. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things.
"Yeah, it's me, doofus," Gwen shot back as she sat down to her cousin's right. This was her assigned seat, and she had made a face when the teacher had told her so. "My dad got a new job here in Bellewood."
"You have got to be kidding me," Ben sighed as he slapped his palm to his forehead. 5th grade was going to be a lot harder with Gwen bragging about how she aced every test.
"Hey, do you think I want to be here?" Gwen asked, raising one eyebrow. "Of all the classes I could have been in, the principal chooses to put me in your class." Just then another student walked in. She looked new. She had long dirty-blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes. She wore black leggings that went just above her ankles and a green shirt similar to Gwen's but without the cat. She had green earrings in too. She asked the teacher where she would sit, and the teacher jestured to the seat on the other side of Ben. Ben gazed at the girl as she walked to her seat and sat down, taking out a piece of paper and a pencil from her pocket. A light pink creeped across the yong hero's cheeks as he turned away as to not draw her attention. Gwen saw this and grinned.
"Oooo, someone likes the new girl," she teased. She whispered so the girl did not hear.
"Shut up," Ben muttered and leaned forward onto his desk, his arms crossed in front of him. He took a glance and saw the girl drawing on the paper. It was a picture of some sort of bipedal turtle with shoes. Ben was impressed. Apparently she was a great cartoonist. The turtle looked firmiliar somehow, but he couldn't quite pinpoint where he had seen it before. He let his eyes drift to her brown eyes, and he sighed. A little rim of grey-green was on the outside of her irises that faded into brown. They were beautiful.
RIIIIIIIINNNNNGGG!!!!
The bell jolted Ben's attention off of the girl and he sat up suddenly. Gwen laughed.
"You should have seen your face!!!" she exclaimed. "It looked like you had seen a ghost!"
"Maybe you will see a ghost if you don't keep your big mouth shut," Ben growled. He spotted the girl put her piece of paper and pencil away into her desk.
"Oh, please. You wouldn't dare go hero he-" Gwen was cut off by a loud rumble that shook the floor and walls. Students looked around, confused. The teacher stood up, looking around as well. Another rumble came, and a lamp on the teacher's desk crashed to the floor.
"What's going on?" Gwen asked, her eyes narrowing.
"I don't know, but I don't like the sound of it," Ben replied looking around. He took a quick glance at the new girl and found she was looking at him. Their eyes met, and pink creeped across both of their cheeks. The girl looked away, out the window to her left. The ground lurched again, and this time part of the wall gave way, letting in air from outside. Kids gasped, a few of them screaming as one of Ben's long-time enemies stuck his ugly mug in: Dr. Animo. He was riding on a giant lizard-like thing; probably one of his many "animal experiments". The teacher gasped and tried to get the kids to calm down.
"Animo!" Ben and Gwen shouted simultaneously. Ben's eyes narrowed; who in their right mind would go and attack some elementary school? No one. Animo wasn't in his right mind, being obsessed with mutations, and he would do anything to get his grubby hands on the Omnitrix.
" I demand you give me the Omnitrix, Tennyson! Or else your stupid town will pay!" he yelled, waving a fist in the air.
"Okay, so I lied about going hero here," Gwen said. "Let's take care of this pet freak!"
"Way ahead of you!" Ben replied, slamming his hand down on the Omnitrix switch. A flash of bright green light blinded everyone for a second, and standing in Ben's place was Fourarms.
"Bring it on, Animo!" he said gruffly, taking a fighting stance.
"Go, my pet! I will have the Omnitrix!" Animo's lizard creature leaped inside the building, the ground rumbling as it landed. It licked its lips, sharp teeth glistening as Fourarms backed up a little, not taking his eyes off of the overgrown reptile. It lunged forward, and Fourarms jumped to its backside near its tail. He grabbed the tail, using all four of his arms, and shouted to Gwen: "watch out!" He began to swing in circles, the lizard swinging with him, and Fourarms let go, letting the lizard crash into the wall Animo had come in from. It almost completely collapsed under the lizard's great weight, and the lizard was still for a moment, Animo halfway under it. Gwen came to Fourarms' side and started to say a spell. Once she finished speaking the words, she cast the spell at the lizard. The spell shrunk it so it was the size of a normal lizard again. Animo cursed.
"You haven't seen the last of me, Tennyson!" he shouted and scurried away before anyone could see what he had done and call the police. The Omnitrix timed out and Ben smiled a little.
"It's always nice when you beat one of your archenemies," he said.
"I'll say," said a voice. Ben and Gwen whipped around to find the new girl standing there, smiling. "That was amazing!"
Ben's cheeks flushed. "Er, thanks," he stammered. Gwen smirked.
"What's your name?" Gwen asked, deciding to start a conversation.
"I'm Zoe. Who are you two?" she replied.
"I'm Gwen, and this is Ben," she gestured to Ben. He waved. The girl blushed a little as she waved back.
"It's nice to meets you two," she said. The teacher walked into the recked classroom, her students following close behind.
"School has been canceled today. Everyone can go home. The office has a phone you can use if you need a ride. The principal had contacted all of your parents about this incident so they will know," she announced.
"All right!" Ben cheered. "No school!"
"Yes!" Zoe pumped her fist in the air.
"Aww, I was hoping we could do some sort of reading," Gwen sighed. Ben and Zoe looked at Gwen quizzically.
"How the heck do you like school that much? Are you really sure you're my cousin?" Ben asked. Suddenly a firmiliar honk sounded outside. The three kids spun around to see Grandpa Max at the wheel of the Rust Bucket. He got out and started walking towards the trio.
"Grandpa!" Ben and Gwen shouted and ran to greet him. Zoe stood where she was and smiled.
"Hey you two!" he said. Just then Zoe's eyes widened. That voice...
"Wait a minute," she said. "I know you!" Max looked up and smiled.
"I know you too," he replied. "How goes it, Zoe?" Ben and Gwen stared at their grandpa in disbelief.
"I'm great! How are you?" she replied, smiling.
"Never better. It sure has been awhile," Max replied. "The last time I saw you I think you were about 4 years old!"
"Wow. How do I remember you from that long ago?" Zoe wondered out loud.
"Hold up a minute!" Gwen said. How do you know her, Grandpa?"
"Yeah, how?" Ben joined in.
"I'll tell you in the Rust Bucket. It's kinda private," he replied, beckoning the kids to follow him. As they climbed into the Rust Bucket, all eyes were set on Max as the kids sat down at the table.
"So what's the story?" Ben asked. "How do you know Zoe?"
"Alright," Max said. "About 13 years ago, I met two plumbers by the names of Lily and Arthur. They were great friends, and soon after I met them the three of us were all very good friends. Then, 2 years later, Lily and Arthur decided to retire and live more "normal" lives for a reason only us three knew; Lily was pregnant. I decided to retire shortly after they did, and I went to go see their baby when I did. Zoe was about 1 year old, and I was happy I went to go see her. So that is how I know her."
Ben and Gwen stared at their grandpa, and Zoe did too. Then she shook her head to clear it and began to speak.
"There's more," she said, looking down. Max nodded as he began to drive.
"Should I tell them or do you want to?" he asked.
"I will," Zoe said. "About 6 months after the first visit, Max received a phone call. It was my parents telling him to come over right away. When he arrived, my parents explained what was happening." Zoe took a deep breath. "I was acting weird, and when Max went to look at me, he noticed something right away: my canine teeth were longer than they were supposed to be, and my pupils kept flickering from slits to regular circles. He knew exactly what was up with me." Zoe paused and looked up. "I am half dragon. Whenever I'm really mad or when I really need to, I will turn into a half dragon. That means I will have horns, wings, a tail, claws, spikes running down my back, and I will be able to breathe fire. It's really cool, but sometimes it's really bad. I did it once at my old school because I was really mad, and they kicked me out for being different." Her eyes narrowed. "I didn't even do anything! They just said I could be 'a danger to the students' and they kicked me out! But I'm completely under control when I go dragon! I think they just kicked me out because they thought I was weird and strange." She crossed her arms and her eyes softened a little as she sighed. "I just hope that doesn't happen here."
Ben and Gwen were wide-eyed. Everyone was silent for awhile. Finally Ben broke the silence.
"Wow. That's hard. I bet if someone saw me go alien if I wasn't one of those heroes out there I would get kicked out."
"Yeah, and if someone saw me use magic, I bet kids would avoid me and I might be kicked out," Gwen added. "But the fact that you're a half dragon... that's awesome! I really want to see you do that sometime."
"Me too! It would be so cool to see you up in the air, flying around and breathing fire!" Ben exclaimed making a a flying motion with his arms. Zoe smiled.
"Thanks. Seeing you two fighting Animo was really cool. It made me wonder if I could ever do something like that."
"That's actually what I wanted to talk about," Max chimed in. Zoe's eyes widened.
"Really?!" she said, smiling. Gwen elbowed Ben, smirking. Ben narrowed his eyes at her.
"Don't. Say. A. Word," he whispered. Gwen shrugged.
"Whatever you say, doofus."
"I kept thinking about having you join us sometime for a road trip or something. We're sure to come across some aliens then, so you could help us fight them," Max suggested.
"That would be awesome!" Zoe exclaimed, smiling. Ben noticed that her canines were longer than normal, almost like a cat or dog's. Whoa, that's cool, he thought. Then he got an idea.
"Hey, do you think you could go dragon anytime if you tried?" he asked.
"I haven't really thought about that," Zoe admitted. "I doubt it, though."
"Wouldn't hurt to try, would it?" Gwen jumped in.
"I guess. Alright," Zoe said. She closed her eyes and started to think about her dragon form. After a minute she felt herself beginning to change. Ben and Gwen jumped as they saw scaly red wing ripped out of her shirt and a tail of the same color appeared behind her. Her nails grew into black claws and two smokey grey horns appeared on her head. Her canines grew about an inch, and as she opened her eyes, the cousins noticed her pupils were now slits. Zoe stood up, tail flicking back and forth, and looked at herself. She smiled.
"Well, that worked!" she said.
"Wow! That's so cool!" Ben said.
"I wish I could do that!" Gwen agreed.
"Nice, Zoe," Max said. "Now how do you change back?"
"Either I think about my normal self or I just change back on my own without thinking about it," she replied.
"Do ya think you could breathe fire?" Ben asked.
"Probably, but in don't think that's a very good idea in here," she replied.
"Yeah, true," Ben said, blushing a little. Zoe turned back to normal suddenly and sat back down.
"So," she began, "do you like video games?"
"Heck yeah!" Ben replied. "Sumo Slammers is the best!"
"Cool! My little brother loves that game. It is pretty fun. But my ultimate favorite series is the Mario series," Zoe said.
"Hmm," Ben thought, wracking his brain, trying to see if he had heard of it before. It sounded firmiliar, but he couldn't find out where he had heard of it or what it was. "I've never played that series before."
"Really?! You have to! It's sooooo fun!" Zoe said. "I'm kind of obsessed with it. I draw Mario characters all the time."
"Cool. Can I see one?"
"Sure. I think I have a picture I drew this morning in my pocket." Zoe reached into her pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. "Here we go! This is a picture of Yoshi" She unfolded the paper to reveal a picture of a dinosaur-lizard type creature with a large nose. It was really cute and really well drawn.
"Wow, that's really good," Ben commented.
"How do you do that?" Gwen asked, clearly amazed.
"Thanks. I draw Yoshi a lot, so it kinda comes naturally I guess," Zoe replied.
"So what is the Mario series all about?" Gwen asked.
"Okay, I'll try to explain this as best I can. There's this guys named Mario who is, or at least was, a plumber. Like a pipe plumber, not like Grandpa Max was a plumber. Anyway, he lives in the Mushroom Kingdom. The Mushroom Kingdom is home to a species called Toads, a sort of mushroom people I guess you could say. Princess Peach is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. She is a human. But Bowser, a... mutant turtle dragon thing called a Koopa, captures her a lot, forcing Mario and sometimes his little brother Luigi to go save her. Sorry, I'm not that good at explaining things. I think it would make more sense if you play one of the main series games."
"Seems cool," Ben said. "Now I just need somewhere to play it."
"I have a bunch of Mario games, so you could come to my house," Zoe suggested. She blushed as she did so. Ben blushed too. Gwen just grinned.
"Yeah, that would be fun," Ben said. "I'll talk to my parents to see when we can arrange it."
"Cool. I'll talk to my parents too. This is going to be awesome!" Zoe said.
"Sorry to break up your fun, but we're at your house Zoe," Max said. He was smiling, but he looked as if he was in deep thought. His smile faded some.
"Aw man. Okay, bye guys! I'll see you soon!" Zoe waved as she got off the RV. Ben and Gwen waved as she ran to her house. Gwen smirked at Ben.
"What?" Ben asked.
"I think she likes you," Gwen said. Ben perked up at that.
"Really?!" He said, excited. Then he realized what he just said. "Uh, I mean, really?"
"Ha!" Gwen laughed. "Oh man, your face when I said that!" Ben's cheeks flushed.
"Oh, be quiet," Ben mumbled.
"But I really do think she likes you," Gwen pressed. "I mean, did you see that whenever she looked at you her cheeks got pink?"
"Uh, I don't know..."
"That's because you weren't paying attention. I guess that makes sense because you have a major crush on her."
"Ben, we're at your house!" Max said. He still looked like he was deep in thought, as if wondering whether he should tell them something or not.
"And a good thing too," Ben said, relieved that he was going to have some time away from Gwen. The only perk about having Gwen attend his school was after school, it would be that much better to get home.
The next day, Ben was disappointed to hear that, dispite the broken wall, school would continue. They would just be in a different classroom until their original classroom was fixed. As Ben was eating a bowl of cereal, he thought about his "date" with Zoe. He would go to her house after school today, and he was nervous and excited. After all, it wasn't every day you go home with your crush and play video games at her house.
As he thought about his after school plan, he felt the ground rumble. He sighed. Was Animo at it again? Animo better not be trying again, Ben thought as he scooped a last spoonful of cereal into his mouth and set his bowl in the sink. The ground shook again, this time more violently, and he fell over. Ben's mother had just come down the stairs, and she held onto a chair to steady herself.
"What was that?" she asked, slightly alarmed. It can't be an earthquake, it's too inconsistent Ben said to himself as he picked himself up and ran to the door. He opened it and looked out. He saw nothing unusual, but another violent lurch sent Ben toppling over backwards. He saw his father racing down the stairs as Ben steadied himself on his feet again.
"You okay, Ben?" Ben's father asked.
"I'm fine," he replied. "What's going on?" Yet another rumble came, but this time Ben kept himself standing by gripping onto the couch that sat in their living room.
"I'm going to check things out," Ben announced as he grabbed his backpack and sling it over his shoulder.
"No, you are going to stay right here yong man," his mother said.
"Mom, relax. I have this," he turned to his mother and jestured to the Omnitrix. "I'll be okay. I promise."
His mom thought this over, and finally agreed.
"Be careful," she said.
"I will," Ben replied. Another lurch came, but Ben managed to keep himself on his feet.
Ben stepped out of his house and saw several small branches littering the sidewalk. He began his normal walk to school just in case these weird shakes were from his school. He seriously doubted it, but he thought he might see something on the way. Another rumble flung Ben off his feet and onto the grass of his neighbor's yard. Ben rubbed his head as he sat up. Ouch. Whoever's causing these weird earthquakes is going to pay, he promised to himself as he got up and began walking again. Then he got an idea. If I can stay in the air, I won't fall over at all! He checked to see if anyone was watching, then set the Omnitrix to Stinkfly.
"It's hero time!" he said and slammed down the Omnitrix. In a moment he was in the air, his backpack still on his back as he soared through the sky, trying to find the source of the earthquakes.
He was searching for about 8 minutes when Ben heard the firmiliar noise that meant the Omnitrix was going to time out. He looked down. Uh oh. He had kept somewhat close to the ground just in case the Omnitrix did time out, but he was still at least 4 stories high. In a flash of red light, Ben was back to being himself, and he plummeted down.
"Waaaaaah!" He shouted, not being able to keep himself from screaming. He shut his eyes tight, bracing himself for pain, but instead he felt a yank on the back of his shirt. He looked up to see who had saved him and he felt his heart skip a beat.
Zoe was holding him by the back of his shirt, half dragon, flying low. She finally let him down in front of the Rust Bucket a block later. Gwen and Grandpa Max were there, waiting. Zoe landed next to Ben and went back to normal.
"Thanks for saving me," Ben said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"Any time. Even heroes need heroes sometimes," she replied.
"You got that right," Gwen said. Just then another rumble shook the ground, and everyone except Grandpa Max fell over. Max kept a firm hold on the Rust Bucket. Ben rubbed his head as he got up; he had hit it pretty hard on the hard concrete of the street.
"You all okay?" Max asked.
"I think," Ben replied, still rubbing his head.
"I'm good," Zoe said, rubbing her lower back a little.
"I'm okay," Gwen announced, dusting herself off.
"Alright. The whole city is under lockdown, so no one should be outside unless they're the ones making these earthquakes," Max explained. Then he sighed. "I've got something to tell you all about the whole Mario video game series."
"What?" Zoe said. She seemed very interested.
"It's all based off of true events," Max announced. The kids eyes flew open in shock.
"Explain please," Gwen said.
"Alright. While I was still in the plumber business, Vilgax wasn't our main archenemy. There was another villain who got on our nerves a lot: Bowser. He would often steal highly-ranked members of us and try to end the plumbers by using the members he stole as bait. His cronies weren't terribly hard to defeat; a stomp on a Goomba's head would make it disappear. But the closer you made it to one of his bases, the harder the enemie became to beat. We always won, but not without cost. This one plumber named Mario always seemed to clear the 'levels' with ease, so he was often the one to get the members of us back. His little brother Luigi was really good, too, but he was a little bit of a scaredy-cat sometimes. Then, when Mario retired, he began making games out of our adventures with Bowser, and gave the company to Shigeru Miyamito later. Miyamoto added his own ideas to the company too, making Nintendo."
"So Super Mario is real?" Zoe asked.
"Most of it, yes. The only thing that isn't is the multiple worlds you travel through. In our actual adventures, we traveled to different planets," Max replied.
"Wow," Ben said, astonished. Another rumble flung him forward, and he landed on the concrete with a loud thump! Ugh, he thought as lay on the hard, black asphalt. He was sure there were stars whizzing around his head.
"You okay Ben?" Grandpa Max asked. "Looks like you been falling over a lot."
"I think I'm okay," he replied, sitting up. One more hit to the head and I'm out cold, he thought. He stood up and wobbled a little.
"You sure you're okay?" Gwen asked. "I can almost see stars circling your head."
Ben shook his head to clear it. It helped a bit, but he still felt like stars were spinning around his head.
"Alright, I think I'm fine. So, are we looking for the source of that weird earthquake? Or what are we doing?" he asked.
"Well, we were out to find you first, then to find the source of those earthquakes," Zoe explained. "So, where are we looking first?"
"I don't kno-" Grandpa Max was cut off by another rumble but this one was much bigger than all the rest. Everyone fell, and the Rust Bucket wobbled a little. Luckily no one was injured badly (though Ben still felt like he was going to faint any second) and they all looked up to see one of the most terrifying sights they had ever seen.
Bowser stood above the four of them, grinning widely.
"Well hello, Max Tennyson," he growled. "I see you have made some new friends recently."
"Go home, Bowser!" Max shouted. "Why are you here anyway?!"
"Isn't it obvious?" Bowser boomed. "I want the Omnitrix, the spell book, and you," he pointed a clawed finger at Zoe.
"You're not getting anything from us!" Gwen shouted, eyes narrowing. Zoe and Ben took a fighting stance and Max grabbed a laser gun out of his belt. Bowser just laughed.
"You think you can stop me? Ha! That's the best joke I've ever heard. I'll be taking what I want now, thanks," he roared and he stomped, causing the ground to lurch violently. The quartet fell over, and Ben hit the ground hard. Just hard enough to make his vision swim. He remained on the ground, and he just knew there were stars circling his head.
"Ben!" Max shouted.
"Ugh," was all Ben could manage. He picked himself up a little then let himself fall back down. This is a little embarrassing, Ben thought as he finally gave in to darkness.
Well, what did you think? Hope you like it! I'll write more when I can. See you next time!
