Okay, guys…Here's a new story. I hope you like it. I've tried to stick what mainly happened on the show but the timeline set out in s1 and the one from s2 all gets a bit confusing! So, hope you don't mind if it not exactly correct!

I enjoyed writing Charles and Elvis' friendship in the last chapter and I couldn't resist this…And although I've read quite a few fics where Molly has been in s2 storylines, I've yet to come across one where Elvis and Georgie appear in s1….Sorry, if there is one out there that I've missed…and please point me in its direction if so!

This is set s1, after Sohail dies but before Molly finds out about Rebecca / Sam

Please review and let me know what you think! (BTW apologize for the title… I just couldn't think of one!)

A Different Mission

Major Beck walked towards the gate to greet the team from Special Forces; he was happy to see them. The situation Private Dawes had stumbled across while getting to know a young Afghan girl seemed to keep getting bigger and bigger. A recent development was that Special Forces had already been tracking the girl's father and were here now ready to launch a mission to capture him. Things had moved quickly and Beck hadn't even had chance to inform Captain James of the new plans since he was out on a PT session with 2 Section.

He couldn't help but groan when he saw the members of Special Forces that had been deployed.

"Major Beck…" Elvis Harte grinned at him, holding out a hand.

"Harte…." Beck sighed, reluctantly shaking his hand. "Why am I not surprised you've turned up."

"I just go where they tell me." Elvis replied.

"Like I'm going to believe that." Beck rolled his eyes. "You better not be here to cause any trouble…"

"Of course not, Sir…" Elvis tried to look offended and innocent at the same time.

"Hmm…." The Major still looked doubtful. "Empty your kits…All of you."

"Sir?" Spanner looked at him questionably.

"I don't trust him not to sneak something in." Beck nodded his head towards Elvis.

"Come on, Lads…Quicker we do it, the quicker we can go get some food…" Elvis unzipped his Bergen and dumped the contents onto the floor.

The rest of his team watched him and shared a look with each other before doing the same.

Beck watched them, arms folded and trying to keep the amused look off his face. Having worked with both Harte and James before, he knew what kind of trouble the two of them could get up to when they were together. If it wasn't for the fact they were both terrific soldiers, they wouldn't have gotten as far as they have after some of the stunts they had pulled. While James had settled down since becoming a captain, he knew what kind of influence they had over each other.

"Okay, Harte…Captain James and 2 Section are out doing a PT session...why don't you and I go over a few things before they get back?" Beck suggested when he was satisfied Elvis wasn't smuggling anything banned in.

"Yes, sir…" Elvis followed him.

The rest of the Special Forces team were still repacking their kit when 2 Section appeared, watching them curiously as they gathered around.

"Lose something, lads?" Fingers questioned.

Charles pushed his way through and raised an eyebrow at the newcomers. "Well, what did we do to deserve the honour of Special Forces?"

"Think the boss just missed you, sir." Spanner smirked, shoving the remaining of his belongings back into his Bergen.

"Oh, no doubt about it, Spanner…" Charles said with a smile and his head tilted slightly. "Speaking of which, where is he?"

Molly shared a curious look with Smurf, silently asking if he knew what was going on but he just shrugged in confusion.

"With Major Beck…Probably going over some ground rules…The Major has already done a kit inspection to make sure we have no contrabands on us…" Spanner answered and then gestured to the two newest members of the Special Forces team. "Captain James, this is Jackson and Peanut…"

"Captain James?" Jackson repeated, as he reached out to shake his hand. "The Captain James in all the stories?"

"There are stories, Sir?" Molly couldn't help but question.

"Ah, I wouldn't believe everything you hear…" Charles warned, with a grin on his face.

"What's going on, Sir?" Mansfield asked, confused.

"I think we're about to find out…" Charles nodded towards Elvis and Major Beck, who was heading towards them.

"Captain James…You're back, good…" Beck greeted them. "There's been a development…I'll let Harte fill you in and then we'll meet in the Ops tent in 15 minutes."

"Yes, Sir."

Beck hesitated, looking between the two of them. "Don't make me regret allowing the two of you to work together…"

"We'll be perfect soldiers, sir." Elvis promised with a grin.

Beck opened his mouth to say something but decided against it; instead he sighed and walked away.

"What the bloody hell are you doing here?" Charles asked his friend. "I thought you'd be back home by now…"

"I was and now I'm here to save your ass."

Charles raised an eyebrow at the comment.

"And I have something I need to talk to you about." Elvis added before Charles could say anything. "I'm in love…"

"Oh god…" Charles rolled his eyes.

"Hey!"

"Elvis, you fall in love with any girl that smiles at you…" Charles shot back. "No offence."

"How am I not meant to take offence to that?" Elvis threw his hands up. "Beside, this time, it's different…She's the one."

Charles shook his head and had to fight a smile. "Come on, you better fill me in…"

Charles turned around. "2 section, show our guests where they can get some food then hit the showers…"

"Sir."

"Captain James?" Jackson stopped him before they walked away. "Is it true that you were once confronted by a group of insurgents and shot yourself to distract them so you could escape?"

"Of course not…" Charles replied and turned to start walking again but couldn't help but add. "I shot Elvis."

Elvis glared at him as they walked side by side, waiting until they were out of ear shot before saying anything. "I still have the scar from that , you know…"

Charles laughed. "No you don't…It was a paintball not a real bullet and the insurgents were a group from the local TA…"

"Still hurt." Elvis claimed. "And I think that's probably one of the reasons Beck is so nervous about us working together…"

"He thinks we're going to pull a stunt like that for real?" Charles questioned, opening the door to his quarters. "Well, can't say I haven't considered it."

"Yeah, whatever…You love me, really." Elvis followed him in.

"So, tell me…what's going on?"

"Okay, so I met Georgie…"

"Not your love life." Charles cut him off. "Why are you here?"

"Oh… Well, we heard about the trouble you had with that kid? The one who gave you the information and you had her moved to a safe house."

"Her name is Bashira." Charles replied. "Private Dawes built a connection with her…She was always around when we were out on patrol… She told Dawes about a planned attack at the mountain check point…We got her moved because we believe her father is Taliban."

"Well, you were right." Elvis informed him. "We've been watching him for a while now…That's why we're here…Our mission is to capture him…We believe he is going to go after the girl ….Beck has authorized 2 section to support us."

Charles nodded, his mind already working a mile a minute at what the risks were. It was pretty clear the Taliban were aware of Molly's involvement with Bashira. He wasn't comfortable with her going and being so close when she was a big target to them.

"We'll go over all the information we have when we meet with Beck." Elvis added, watching him closely; he knew there was something worrying his friend. "Okay?"

"Yep." Charles forced a smile and sat down on his bed before running his fingers through his hair. "So, go on…Tell me about this girl….I know you're dying too…Is it the one you were seeing before you went on tour."

"Nah, had to text her and end it… Georgie said she wouldn't agree to see me if I was already taken."

"A text? Jesus, Elvis…Is it any wonder why you can never stay in a relationship."

"Oh yeah? Like you can talk…How is Rebecca?"

Charles shot him a look and Elvis held up his hands.

"Sorry, even I know that was out of line." He replied.

"She's actually doing fine…Apparently, not being married to me anymore makes her happy."

"And you?"

"And me what?"

"Are you happy not being married to her anymore?"

"You know me…Living out a Bergen is when I'm at my happiest."

"Charlie…"

"Leave it, Elvis…" Charles shook his head. "So, this girl...Where did you meet her?"

"She was the medic on our last mission…" Elvis told him. "We were pinned down…and she was just amazing…I fell in love with her there and then."

"She's a medic?"

"Yeah, why?"

Charles couldn't help but let out a small laugh in disbelief as he thought about his growing affection towards his own medic.

"What?"

"Nothing…" Charles forced himself to his feet. "We better get to the Ops tent…"

"Charlie." Elvis grabbed his arm to stop him leaving. "Everything is okay with you, isn't it?"

"Yes, Elvis…Why wouldn't it be?" He replied but Elvis just looked at him. "It's just been a long tour…"

"And here I was, thinking you are at your happiest living out of a Bergen…" Elvis quipped.

"Come on, Beck will send you straight back to the UK if we're even a minute late." Charles pulled away and opened the door.

Elvis followed but knew there was something wrong with his best mate… He just had no idea what.
