Moonlit Memorials

They go to visit all the graves, hand in hand. But only she cries. He doesn't have any tears left anymore.

They stand there, the Muggleborn witch and the former twin, and grieve.

To Fred

Loving Son, Brother, and Friend

remember to laugh

Remember to laugh. Fred was always saying that in the last year of the war. George hadn't laughed in weeks. He thought he may have forgotten how. And he wasn't too interested in learning again. What was the point?

Hermione tightened her hold on his hand, sensing his distress. The moon illuminated the varied tombstones and cast a pale gleam on their faces.

He had gone there every night since Fred was buried.

The third night, Hermione had woken in the middle of the night thirsty. On her way to get a drink, she saw George slip silently out the door. Being Hermione, she followed him.

Tonight was the first night of the third month, and they had gone to Fred's grave every night.

They never spoke to each other while there. The silence seemed fitting for the occasion. It was a moonlight vigil.

This night, though, it was worse.

It was the anniversary of Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, the famous magical jokeshop the twins had founded. It should have been a joyful second anniversary with lots of explosions. But it wasn't.

Later on he would try to explain why he did what he did that night, but mostly it just puzzled people.

He was sobbing dry sobs, feeling as though his heart was breaking all over again.

"George," Hermione said in a mournful tone. She pulled him close to her and raised her arms up to stroke his hair.

He looked at her eyes, softly gleaming in the moonlight. And he kissed her.

They broke apart gently some time later- they didn't know when.

He stared at her, a question in his eyes.

Wasn't this wrong, kissing your brother's girlfriend next to your other brother's grave?

"No," she answered, understanding his question.

"No," he agreed, and pulled her to him once more.
