Life is Strange: Precious Moment

Another Life is Strange oneshot I salvaged from the (currently) abandoned chronicles collection. I hope you enjoy it, truthfully, it was my personal favourite one.

Disclaimer: I don't own Life is Strange or its characters.

The peace and quiet of the night was shattered by the wail of an infant. Jolted awake by the sound of the crying, Vanessa Caulfield smiled lightly, already knowing the source and, from the cries themselves, the problem. Hearing her husband mumbled beside her as he started to wake, she gently put her hand on his shoulder.

"It's alright Ryan, I've got this." She told him.

He nodded, already awake but nevertheless sat up as Vanessa left and headed through to their daughter's room. Entering she continued to smile; it was already quite the journey, despite it not having been so long, but here she was, she and her husband were parents, it was something that was still so remarkable to them both. Reaching the crib she lifted her infant daughter up.

"Hey Maxine, it's okay, mommy's here." She said softly.

The baby girl's cries dulled to small sniffles briefly as her big blue tear-filled eyes stared up at her mother. Gently stroking the small amount of brown hair already crowning her daughter's head, Vanessa prepared herself; she knew after all why Max was crying, she was hungry. Once Max had latched on and began to feed, Vanessa walked slowly towards the window, briefly looking out at the street outside before looking back down at Max, still gently stroking her hair. While feeding Max looked up at her mother, eyes still wide, although there were no more tears. She was clearly at peace.

Hearing the door, Vanessa didn't need to turn around. She knew Ryan wouldn't be able to just wait in bed and didn't blame him.

"Vanessa?" He queried softly as he approached. "Is Maxine okay?"

Vanessa nodded. "Yeah, she was just hungry, isn't that right, sweetie."

She grinned at her daughter as Max simply continued to feed. Stepping up to join them, Ryan embraced Vanessa and also stroked Max's hair. They both stood, content as they enjoyed this moment with their daughter. They both knew how fortunate they were, while the pregnancy had been easy, Max's birth had been difficult, Vanessa recalled with a slight shudder. Twice there had been fears that one or both of them wouldn't make it. She had begged Ryan, if he had to choose, to save Max. Despite the fact she could see her asking him that pained him. But in the end, it hadn't been necessary; they both made it and Max was found to be a perfectly healthy baby. She was, in Ryan and Vanessa's eyes, their most precious gift and one which, nothing in the world could ever hope to match.

End of story, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
