Desperate Housewives
Season 4 Episode 16 "The Gun Song"
Story Summary: What would have happened if the therapist on the other line hadn't heard Kayla and Tom's conversation?
Previously: Lynette is in jail for potential 'child abuse'. Since the therapist believes that Kayla is a sweet and innocent child, she is taking her side. There is no way for Lynette to prove she's innocent unless Tom tricks Kayla into admitting the truth.
"Are the police going to let me live here after I tell the truth?" Kayla whispered.
"No sweetie. We can't trust you anymore after everything you've done," Tom put his hand on her knee.
"Then I'm not admitting anything," Kayla said, "I'm just going to keep lying."
Tom picked up the phone on the nightstand and put it to his ear. "Did you get all that?" Tom spoke slowly and confidently. Kayla's mouth dropped open. He had framed her? But then Tom blinked, the phone still to his ear, and the Adam's apple in his throat wiggled. He looked terrified. Slowly, he pulled the phone away from his ear and glanced at the screen. It was black; the call had been lost. He quickly cleared this throat and smiled, slapping the phone closed. "Kayla that was the therapist on the other line, she heard everything."
"Oh, I don't think she did Daddy," Kayla's smile spread across her face, in the most evil grin possible.
"Yes, she did," Tom said trying to sound as convincing as he could, but he knew she knew. He got up quickly, and ran to the door. He needed to find Lynette. He needed to call the therapist back. Surely she had heard some part of the conversation, right? Beads of sweat gathered at the top of Tom's forehead as he raced down the stairs.
Kayla crawled out of bed and snuck down the hall. She peeked into the boys' bedroom as they were fast asleep. "Bye-bye boys," she whispered through the door, "Lynette is going to be sorry." As she strode down the hallway, confident, her mind raced with what new trick she was about to play on the boys. And one of them, yes one, was going to be missed from their family.
