They sit there together, at the table, in silence. Everyone else is off doing whatever it is they do, but I've decided I like to take the time to watch. I know they know I'm here, but they're so wrapped up in each other nothing else really matters. A feeling that I remember well, and shall always cherish. They've changed so fast, and seem to keep on changing.

I've never seen so much love and friendship among two people in the entire time I've traveled this 'verse. He's a thinker now, shocking I know. Whoda thought we'd see the day when he actually stopped to look over his actions before jumping into one of Mal's bound to get shot up plans. He even talks with her about all that schooled go se now, even though he doesn't completely understand it, because he knows she likes it. She's calm now, or mostly, but even the bad days aren't as bad as they used to be, because he's there to hold her and remind her of all the beauty they share. She listens to his stories of home and battles gone glorious, even though she knows them all by heart now, because she knows he likes it.

It's funny how Time changes people's views on just about everything. They know their family is apart of our family, even if Mal was a bit red around the eyes and Doc was a bit green along the gills at first. That's what we women are for. Gotta make sure the men folk aren't pi gu like. Now they aren't just watched over, but they watch over us too.

So as I lean here now, once again lost in my own thoughts, I am amazed and glad they fit so well together. She's there knitting a blanket because space can be mighty cold especially for a baby. He's there whittling away little details of his favorite guns on a new crib, because "You aint ever to young to learn how to protect yourself." They sit close enough together to feel each other's body heat, but still far enough away Captain won't complain about inappropriate touching occurring where he sets his food. The only sounds that can be heard are the ones of a loving home being created. His knife running across the wood, her rocking chair sliding back and forth as she puts her feet up. When she stops her work to place his hand on her stomach a smile blooms on his face, and as he places a kiss on her lips I'd almost think they were frozen in time; the perfect picture of contentment.

Life is to short and to precious to be wasting it and I'm glad they've both realized that. They're so good together. As I take a deep breath and head towards my mister's favorite spot for stargazing, the couple looks at me with so much lightness and happiness I can't help but smile hello in return. As I leave I notice him lean in for one more kiss before getting back to work. A kiss so simple and yet so obviously holds so many promises for the future. I'm so thankful I get to sit back and watch their story continue to grow.
