A/N: Hi! I wrote this oneshot at the end of August, and I just found it in one of my notebooks. I decided I wanted to type it and put it on FanFiction! So, anyhow, review please. I adore reviews!
FLASHBACK
One…Two…Three…she counted in her head. One…Two…Three…she counted again. The door to the small hospital room creaked open. Her hands began to sweat. She wiped her clammy hands against her skirt. Her doctor looked at her, and then at her mother, as if he had a secret he wasn't telling them…And he did. He looked at Andy apologetically, and right then, without him every having to say a work, she knew the cold, hard truth.
"Andy," her doctor of six years whispered. She's heard that "Andy" in that tone before, by that same doctor, in the very room. She looked up at the doctor. "I'm sorry." It's not like she was wishing, and wishing she didn't have it, because she knew wishing wouldn't do anything. She heard her mother to sob while she just sat in the cold, hard, red plastic chair, silent and expressionless.
NOW
She sat in a truck with Josh Trager, remembering the events of yesterday. What the hell am I doing here? She thought to herself. She sighed. She knew she was acting bitter towards Josh, bust she was in a bitter mood. Josh leaned forward, turning his MP3 player on. And of course, there was a romantic song on…
"So…" he said, trailing off. He acted as if being alone with Andy in the middle of nowhere was normal. "It's a nice night out here…" She looked over at him and rolled her eyes. "What? I'm just saying. Despite everyone we know may be perishing underground right now…It's a nice night…out here…" She rolled her eyes once more, reaching over to turn the song off. He looked at her questionably.
"I can't take it anymore," she said, "what is up with you? And don't say nothing, because we both know you've been rambling all night! Even more than usual!"
"And you've had zero tolerance for my witty banter," he shot back at her.
"If you've got something to say, forget the jokes, man up and say it." He sighed, thinking about what to do next. In the silence, she looked out her window, seeing nothing but the shapes of trees.
"Okay," she heard him say. "I have a proposal." She looked over at him. "I mean-idea." She nodded to let him know she was listening. "Let's count to three and both say what's on our minds at the same time."
"What are we, twelve?"
"Forget it," he said angrily.
She sighed. "Okay…okay. I'm in."
"Here goes," he whispered to himself. "One."
"Two."
"Three! I like you."
"I have cancer," she said at the exact same time. "What?!"
"What?" he breathed.
Her heart sunk. What was she going to do? Secretly, she had the same feelings he had for her…but she had to pretend they weren't there…to protect him. They heard far away screams for help and got out. She felt like falling off the side of the earth. She sighed and counted to herself, one…two…three as she got out of the truck.
A/N: Review please! I really liked this fanfic! Please, nobody tell me that there should be more. I'm sorry, there's not going to be. I want this to be a simple oneshot! So, review!
