Disclaimer: Um... I don't own any of the Treasure Planet people, places, or things, or the concepts thereof – Disney does. If you were actually stupid enough to think that I did, then you've got bigger problems on your hands than some college kid with too much free time. Besides, both Disney and I owe much to Robert Louis Stevenson on this one...

..."and so, in this quadrant of Section 1983-G, here we have the star system Qatsi, which contains the planets Koyaanis, Powaq, and Naqoy, among others. Now, Koyaanis is of particular importance because of its..."
As the Astrography professor, a short, bald, orange-and-black-scaled Gilan, droned on, Jim Hawkins leaned back and sighed, his thoughts wandering only halfway against his will. He had been at the Interstellar Academy for only a couple of months, and while his intellectual acuity had already advanced him through several of the more remedial courses, and even some second-level ones, he still had a few required intro-level courses to go. He was one of the privileged few accepted to the Academy while still having been in high school (thanks, of course, to Captain Amelia), and had shattered many doubts about him as he had quickly risen through the ranks of his class. He still had a long way to go, though, before he could roam the stars again, but then he would be able to do so as an officer of the Imperial Navy.
He reached back absentmindedly, fumbling at the spot at the nape of his neck where a short braid used to be, imagining himself standing proudly at the helm of a fine Naval ship, solar sails billowing with the energy of the Ætherial winds, roaming the galaxy on exciting missions... And when he returned to Montressor, his friends would be waiting to welcome him back, his mother bursting with pride, and Silver...
Silver wouldn't be there, would he? He was a pirate on the run, after all.
Perhaps that was why Jim wanted to be a great captain. Someone whose name was so well-known across the Ætherium that Silver couldn't help but overhear news of him, and know that he, Silver, had at the very least helped Jim fulfil his true potential, even if Silver's own lifelong dream of finding Treasure Planet had only been realized for a brief, fleeting moment...
"Mr. Hawkins!" Jim was jarred suddenly out of his reverie. The Gilan's raspy voice had an edge to it, as if... oh. Right. That whole paying- attention-in-class thing...
"Yes, sir?" Jim said, standing up and saluting.
"What can you tell me about the star Pellucid?"
"Um... Well, for one, it's kind of not there any more. It supernovaed itself out of existence about five months ago." And almost took me with it, he thought to himself.
"Ah..." the Gilan gave him a sideways look. "Perhaps you have been listening, after all... That'll do. Now," he said, continuing with the lecture as Jim sat back down, "the star Pellucid is one of several stars whose having gone nova had serious ramifications for..."
Jim's mind wandered back to Silver. Despite the fact that life at the Academy hadn't left him with much time to think about anything besides, well, the Academy, his thoughts often found their way to Silver, the cyborg pirate who had, inadvertently, become the only real father figure in Jim's life, perhaps to the benefit of the both of them.
Jim could only wonder where he was now...

Author's note: This fanfic is my very first fanfic ever (yikes!). It's actually inspired, and very loosely so, by a dream I had. Just to warn you: if your dreams are anything like mine, then you often wake up looking very befuddled, scratching your head, and asking yourself, 'What the hell was that?'. ;)
The PG-13 rating isn't meant to scare anyone off, it's merely my way of saying that I haven't the faintest idea where I want to take this story at the moment. On that note, I'll update as inspiration hits, so please be patient... although so far it's written itself.
Hmmm... perhaps more booze is in order...
