Author's Notes: "Going to Davy Jones's locker" means that someone has drowned in the sea. It normally refers to a sailor or pirate, that is where the character of Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean comes from.
Davy Jones's Locker
By Marmalade Atkins
There was a piercing wail from the direction of Ahim's table, where she and Don Dogoiyer had been sitting together to have afternoon tea. The sudden screech caused Luka to turn around in alarm and Joe to almost drop the heavy leatherbound book he was reading. Captain Marvelous, sitting across from them in his armchair, did not look up. Ahim had now begun sobbing noisily, and Dogoiyer put his arm around her, "Don't worry, you won't have to go there until you're dead," he said. He paused for a moment's thought, then added "That'll be soon, then. The Zangyack want to kill us."
"I don't want to live in a locker!" Ahim shrieked. Dogoiyer reached into his pocket to offer her a checked handkerchief. She accepted and began to delicately wipe at her eyes with it.
Luka exchanged a look with Joe, "… Locker?"
"Yeah!" said Dogoiyer. "It's called Davy Jones's Locker. That's where pirates go when they die."
Joe muttered something about how there was no chance of Dogoiyer or Ahim ever going there, because no self-respecting locker would accept them as pirates; and went back to his book. It seemed that Dogoiyer had heard him, "It's OK. You don't have to be a pirate. Anyone can go to Davy Jones's Locker if they die at sea."
Luka got up from her seat and went to join Dogoiyer at the table, deliberately sitting next to him and avoiding the wailing Ahim, "But millions and millions of people have died in the sea. There isn't room for that many in just one locker."
"Oh no, there's room." His expression was completely serious and his voice indicated that he thought he was stating some very important information, "It's a magic locker."
Ahim whimpered, clutching onto his sleeve. He patted her hand reassuringly. Luka used the moment's distraction as an opportunity to lean across the table and snatch a cream pastry from Ahim's plate, "Who's Davy Jones, anyway?"
Dogoiyer hesitated, and then shook his head, "I think he is the locker."
"So you're saying that when we die, we'll go to a locker called Davy Jones. And it's under the sea."
"Yes."
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," said Luka through a mouthful of cream.
"Doc," Captain Marvelous's voice interrupted them, "Shut up. Go and play with Navi or something."
"But –"
"Captain's orders," said Luka.
Dogoiyer got up from the table and went to fiddle with Navi's computer system. Ahim's sobs gradually died down to a quiet sniffle. Just when the GokaiGalleon had grown silent, save for the sound of Luka chomping on more cake, he spoke up again:
"Ever heard about the fifteen men on the dead man's chest?"
