One Year

Mary-Lynnette drummed her fingers against her desk as she stared up at the clock. A few more ticks and class would be over. A few more tocks and she'd be able to go see Rowan and her sisters.

It was stupid, she knew this, but today marked exactly one year since Ash had left. She didn't know if he would actually show up today but she hoped he would. She missed him so much. Knowing – and loving – who your soulmate was but being apart from them for a whole year made you feel as though your only half a person. Mary-Lynnette was ready for that feeling to go away. She was ready to have a normal – well as you can get when your soulmate is Ash Redfern – romance like her classmates had.

Mary-Lynnette's thoughts were cut off by the shrill ringing of the school bell. "Get out of here – and don't forget to study for the quiz!" the teacher shouted as students flooded out of the classroom.

As she walked out – turning right and reaching her locker soon after – she heard bites of several conversations.

"So Maria said-"

"Danny said he'd take me to see-"

"Why can't Nicole just mind-"

However, all other noise was blocked out when she heard her locker neighbor whisper to one of her friends that had grouped around her locker, "Did you see that hot blonde guy outside? The one with the Porsche?"

"I saw that Carter kid talking to him," her friend answered. "Mark I thinks his name."

As the girls next to her turned their heads to look at Mary-Lynnette, she was standing there with a dumb expression on her face. Mark was talking to some hot blonde who had a Porsche..

Hot Blonde... Porsche... Mark... One Year

"He came," Mary-Lynnette mumbled as tears filled her eyes. Her vision was blurry as she shoved her text book onto the top shelf of her locker, grabbed her backpack, and ran for the door ignoring the shouts from the other two girls behind her.

Mary-Lynnette stepped out into the sunlight. She blinked her jean blue eyes a few times before looking around – searching for her target. Finding the back of Mark's head blocking her view of who he was talking to she began to walk towards them. Mary-Lynnette had already wiped the tears in her eyes, but they began to reappear as tall legs, silky blonde hair, and toned muscles came into focus. And when Mark turned his head to see behind him – eyes twinkling when they met with Mary-Lynnette's – giving her the first look at those ever changing eyes and sparkling teeth something inside of her broke.

Her previously pure white bag (a back-to-school gift from Jade who loved the emerald lettering on it) dropped onto the black pavement of the student parking lot. "Ash!" she screamed running to him.

The second she reached him Mary-Lynnette was wrapped in Ash's strong arms as tears cascaded down her cheeks. "I missed you so so much," he whispered against her hair.

Mary-Lynnette pressed herself farther into his chest, "I missed you to Ash."

A/n: So because a) last time I checked – Mary-Lynnette and Ash were in the lead for the one-shot poll (I'm gonna keep it going though because then I can keep writing one-shots) and b) It's been a while since I did anything Night World.
