Rue's death scene: Rue's pov

I pull the spear shaft out of my stomach slowly. I toss it aside, staring at Katniss, my ally, my friend. A wave of fatigue washes over me and I collapse. Katniss moves, just as fast as a mockingjay, to catch me before I hit the cold forest floor. She rests my head on her lap. I stare at her face and ask for one simple request. "Sing?" I whisper, my voice cracking. She simply nods and begins to sing.

I look up at the trees, trying to find a wisp of something I knew at home. I feel myself growing drowsy as I stare at the tall oak leaves, green as the grass that grows in my backyard at home. Home. The sky becomes hazy and I hear one familiar voice. Rue... Come to me, my daughter. Come home with me. Papa? I yearn to leave the pain, the misery, the silence. I yearn to see my father. To go home with him.

Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes.

I follow the song and slowly close my eyelids. Katniss' voice is soothingand melodic like a mockingjay. She is a mockingjay. Quick and light. Gentle, but strong.

Here it's safe, and here it's warm, here the daisy's guard you from every harm, here your dreams are sweet, and tomorrow brings them true.

I feel my body, my soul, floating upwards. I can feel myself leaving this pain ridden world. I'm going home. Home to my father.

Here is the place where I love you.
