Boo's Birthday

By: kelle

Jem and Scout Finch were in bed after their father Atticus had tucked them in. They had closed their eyes and waited for their father to leave. As soon as he left they opened their eyes and turned to each other. They whispered talking about what to get Boo for his birthday. Madison County was a small town and it was easy to get that kind of information.

"Scout we need to give Boo something for his birthday. He's given a lot of things to us. Not only that, but he fixed my pants. He also saved my life."

"I know Jem, but what are we going to get him?"

"I don't know."

"What do you think he'll like?"

"Why don't we go shopping tomorrow? We still have our allowances."

"Well, we can figure that out when we go to the store."

The next day after school they quickly walked to the only store in town. They walked up and down the isles trying to figure out something for Boo when they happened to jump out at them.

"I found something."

"Quiet Scout. Don't let anyone hear you."

"Sorry Jem."

They carried their prize home and went to their room.

"Now we have to find out somewhere where he can find it."

"Why not in the other hiding space that we found."

"Good idea Scout."

Before school they went to their hiding spot where Boo was still giving them gifts and hid their present there.

"Happy Birthday Boo. I hope you like our present."

Later that day Boo Radley walked towards the children's hiding spot about ready to put some gift into the spot when he found something there. He looked at it and smiled. In the palm of his hand stood a small-carved Mockingbird. He put it in his pocket, so no one will see it and put the gift in the hiding spot and then left. He thanked the children in his mind for giving him this birthday present.
