Chapter one
"I still don't get it," Brendon laughed "why on earth would you want to name the album Shark Sandwich?"
Brendon, Spencer and i were walking from the tour bus to the venue, i think we were in chicago, but who can tell anymore? You fall asleep in one city and wake up in another- besides i lost interest in keeping track quite a while ago.
"I told you, man, i was high!" Spencer explained.
"You? High?" Brendon teased, laughing again. God, his laugh, it was like music, i could lose myself in a laugh like that...
"Ryan, am i right?" Brendon asked.
"What? Oh, uh," I snapped out of my trance and quickly tried to recover. "yeah, Spencer the day you get high will be the second coming of the Christ."
"Dude, that already happened." Spencer retorted.
"No it hasn't" I said.
"Yeah, it has!" Spencer continued "i think it was like when-"
Spencer was still talking when i tuned him out accidentally. It wasn't my fault, it's just Brendon was laughing again, that incredible, impossible laugh. His eyes were closed and crinkled at the corners and his mouth was wide open, laughing like he invented it. That smile, that laugh, i wanted it to be the soundtrack to my life. Then out of nowhere the thought entered my head, it had always been there in the depths of my mind but never quite so crystal clear, and looking back on it i think that was the beginning, the thought: I love you.
"Then he was like resurrected i think." Spencer finished.
"Another lesson from Spencer the Historian," Brendon mocked "Ryan's right, and wasn't that Easter or something?"
I love you
Brendon laughed again and i laughed with him, wishing that somehow my laughter might sing too.
