Round One: Jubilife City
The brown-haired girl was standing in a room of a contest hall. She was quite nervous, as her appeal was over, but many more Coordinators, including three of the top four from the Grand Festival (Jessilina was the only one not there), took their turns. Two of the top three potential players were female (and she had actually met the blunette before) and seemed quite skilled. Eventually, after all the entrants had completed their appeals, the judges' decision as to who would move on to the battle rounds would come up.
"And now for the eight Coordinators who'll move on to the second round!" the MC, Marian, said to the large crown on hand. Nearly fifty people looked up at the screen in the backstage area - out of them, only eight would monve on. 'Just like with sports in a playoff push.' the girl thought. The first picture to turn up showed an orange-haired girl - Zoey, the winner of the Grand Festival held ten months prior. Next one up showed a male with long black hair - this was Nando, Zoey's semi-final opponent from the big event. Dawn, the blunette she had met in Sunyshore City after the event (she was traveling with Ash, who had beaten her in a gym battle in Johto) was the third of eight to advance. Then, with one spot left, her own picture appeared. Jasmine, normally a Gym Leader, was taking a chance at being a Coordinator, and had managed to advance past round one.
After six battle round matches, the ribbon was now up for grabs. The winner of the next match would earn the ribbon.
"Now, everybody, it is time for the final match. On my left, the runner-up from the Grand Festival, Dawn." Marian announced. Standing on one side of the battlefield was Dawn, wearing a pink dress as contest rules for Sinnoh stated for the competitors - Zoey was a bit of a tomboy, which meant her contest outfits were more like a male's one.
"And on my right, from Olivine City in the Johto region, Jasmine!" Jasmine was holding a Poke Ball in her hand, ready to battle. Like Dawn, who normally wore a black-and-pink minidress, Jasmine was in a different outfit than she normally wore (a knee-length yellow short-sleeved dress and flats compared to her usual sleeveless white minidress and sandals).
"Five minutes on the clock! Ready. BEGIN!" From over Dawn's shoulder came a penguin-like Pokemon - her starter Pokemon, Piplup. Jasmine threw her Poke Ball, and out came a Magnezone.
"It's Magnezone versus Piplup, and it looks like Jasmine has the edge in terms of type - Magnezone is part Electric, super effective against Piplup. But trainers have managed to win with the disadvantage."
Five fast-paced minutes went by, with both Pokemon gracefully dodging the others' attacks. When the buzzer for time-up came, the points were close - too close to tell.
"And the winner, by a nose, is Jasmine!" At this , Dawn walked up and shook Jasmine's hand, then walked to the dressing room as one of the judges gave Jasmine the ribbon for winning. Round one was over.
