So this is just a short one shot about how Fiyero feels about Elphaba at Shiz.

I do not own Wicked, or any of the characters, so no sueing is allowed.

What is it?

Fiyero walked along the pathway next to the Suicide Canal. It was a nice sunny day, and he was free to walk around Shiz and Railway Square. No classes today and his friends didn't have any outings planned, so he had the day to do whatever he liked. Problem was, he didn't have anything to do. He took to exploring when these rare days of leisure occurred.

He stopped next to a tree and plopped down. He watched the water as the tree's leaves dropped into it. He glanced up, and his breath caught in his chest. There, sitting across from him reading a book was Elphaba. She had her hair loose and slung across her back to keep it out of her face as her eyes roamed the pages of the book. One strand had escaped the rest and hung to the side of her face.

Fiyero stared at her and sighed. He couldn't explain why or how, but he had fallen for the green girl.

Was it her fiery spirit? He smiled as he recalled the day in Life Sciences when she had questioned Doctor Nikidik and defended the poor lion (or was it Lion? They had never had a chance to discover) cub.

Perhaps it was her determination for what she believed in. He knew how she opposed the Animal Bans and how she was supposedly trying to find a way to abolish them, despite her headmistress.

Or maybe it was her love of learning. Fiyero didn't consider himself an exceptionally smart person, but Elphaba's yearning for knowledge and understanding of things far above her classmate's knowledge had often inspired him.

Or could it be her disregard to what people said and thought about her. She stayed strong and never crumbled no matter what people said about her skin. (He could relate to the skin remarks.)

His eyes had become unfocused while he was thinking and he focused them back on her. A small breeze came up and blew little wisps of hair around her face. The leaves stirred and the clouds moved slightly, allowing rays of sunlight to fall on her, illuminating her beautiful features. Fiyero leaned forward and closed his mouth which had fallen open at the sight of her like that. Her emerald skin glowed and put the grass and leaves to shame.

He admired her for all those things; her spirit, her determination, her passion, and her will. No, that wasn't true. He LOVED her for them all, but what truly attracted him to her was her skin. Others thought it was ugly and revolting, but he thought it was the most magnificent thing he had ever seen. He looked at his own dark skin with blue diamonds scattered over it and scowled. It looked so plain and boring compared to hers.

He looked back up to see her closing her book and standing up. He sighed in disappointment and slumped back against the tree.

As he watched her start to leave, she spotted him and turned, acknowledging him with a small smile and wave. Fiyero sat there for a moment in shock and then grinned stupidly and waved back.

He closed his eyes and smiled to himself at the feeling that erupted inside him when she had smiled. He knew he would never be able to choose just one thing he loved most about her, and he didn't know if he ever would. One thing he did know though, was that he was unquestionably in love with Elphaba.
