Even After Death

Happy Labor Day! Now, be forewarned that this is very tragic.

"Nya," Jay knocks on the samurai's red door, but she doesn't respond. "Nya, I'm not forcing you into any decisions, but I want to know…do you really love Cole?"

It's the question she's feared the most. Does she really like him even? Does she really want to push Jay away like that just because of a machine? I don't want it to come to this. I want to…leave. It's all too hard for me, after what happened to Zane. At least we brought him back, now it's a matter of splitting up. Yes…I'm going to leave, away from both of them.

Nya packs her things and opens the door to meet a silent Jay in front of her, sorrow on it, where light used to be. "Are you leaving?" he asks.

She nods and he says, "Let me escort you, then we'll go our own ways." Jay takes her suitcase and ambles to the busy street. Across from her is the train, the train that will take his love away from his heart…forever.

"Goodbye Jay," Nya says softly.

The lightning ninja holds back tears that have threatened to take him over and he whispers, "Goodbye, Nya."

The samurai turns around and starts crossing the street, but the light changes to a red hand. "Nya!" Jay yells, rushing toward her as a truck comes her way.

Before the girl in red knows it, she's on the sidewalk, and…Jay. She gets up and sees him, lying prostrate in a pool of blood and she runs to him, getting on her knees. She lifts Jay onto her lap, caressing his cheek through tears. "Jay, honey?" Nya chokes, "Jay?"

Jay:

I open my weary eyes and see Nya. She's okay. That's all that matters. "Jay?" she gasps.

"Hey," I respond in a weak voice, blood filling my throat. "I'm sorry I was so self-imposing."

"No, I'm sorry. I didn't consider how you felt. I love you, Jay. I love you. Don't leave me!" she pleads, crying hard. It hurts to see her this way.

"Nya," I reach for her hand and she takes it. She's so warm, so gentle that as I feel death closing its fingers around my throat I feel…happy. At least now she won't have to choose, right?

"Jay?"

"Yeah?"

"I lied. I don't love Cole. I love you. Will you forgive me?"

"Silly girl. Of course I forgive you," I choke and see those amber eyes staring at me, and Nya's beautiful face as the world fades away. The last thing I see before I leave here.

The last thing I hear is, "I love you."

Even after death, I finish.
