Ai was walking aimlessly down the sidewalk and smiled to herself as she thought back on Rangiku's crazy truth or dare party. Ai wondered how all of her parties ended with everyone (or just about everyone) getting drunk, which is why Ai always took it upon herself to walk Orihime home since neither of them ever drank. She really didn't want to head home yet. Her mind was too restless to sleep and she couldn't help but think about Renji and Toshirou. She blushed as she thought back to them both showing interest in her during the game of truth and dare.

After all, it was just a silly game. There was no way that either one of them could have any real feelings for her. She shook her head as if to shake the thoughts from her head. She continued walking, soon finding herself in a park. She smiled and made her way to the swings, where she sat and swung gently back and forth. After a few minutes of swinging in a comfortable silence, Ai got the feeling that she was being watched. She came to a stop and looked around, straining her eyes to see into the dark.

She couldn't see anything in the dark shadows, but the feeling wouldn't leave. Ai got off the swing slowly, still scanning the landscape. She started walking backwards so she could watch the tree line in front of her but she soon bumped into something. Ai gasped as hands grabbed her shoulders to steady her. She twirled around to find a sullen Renji.

"Renji! What the heck?! You scared me to death. Don't sneak up on me like that! Why didn't you say something or clear your throat or whistle or make some sort of indication that you were there?" Ai exclaimed, waving her arms a bit.

"You know, sometimes you talk too much, Ai," Renji said as he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her close to him, his other hand tangling itself into her long blue hair. As he bent down and brought his lips to hers, Ai stiffened out of surprise before melting into the kiss. She wrapped her arms around Renji's neck and kissed him back enthusiastically.

Renji smirked as he pulled out of the kiss, gently caressing Ai's bottom lip with the pad of his thumb.

Looking Ai straight in the eyes he said, "That's why I'm here. And also to make sure you get home safely. I know the way you take to get home and it's not the best idea to walk that way by yourself, especially at night."

Instead of replying, Ai just stood there, looking at Renji in silent amazement. "Well, aren't you going to say anything?" Renji asked, looking annoyed.

Ai snickered. "First you tell me that I talk too much and now you're asking if I'm going to speak. Can't you ever make up your mind?" she teased.

Renji grabbed her again, kissing her gently. As he pulled away he spoke softly into her ear, "Yes, I can."

He let her go and started walking in the direction of her house. Ai stood where he left her, a smile on her lips. It was just like Renji to be so direct and nonchalant about stuff like this. As she thought this, she got the feeling again that she was being watched.

Several yards away, Renji yelled, "Don't just stand there! Didn't you hear me earlier? I told you I was going to walk you home so get a move on!" Ai took one last look around before running across the park to catch up with Renji.

"You know, I don't need you to look after me! I am a big girl after all," Ai yelled back at him playfully. Renji just snickered and continued walking.
