Broken Promises
-
-
'You shouldn't make promises you can't keep, Sora.'
That's what she said to the boy before letting him fall asleep in his world of memories. That's what she thought to herself seconds after the sentence was spoken to reassure herself that he would probably never remember her again.
Promises that you can't keep are wretched things; yet you can't stop yourself from promising. In special times it is the only thing you could do to reassure yourself, help somebody, or lie to someone. But in the end, the promises always choose their own paths as to coming true or not.
Promises such as those really shouldn't be spoken. They can mend hearts, break spirits, fill a person with glee. Each broken promise such as that can have many different effects, yet you almost always end up with one thing:
Guilt.
'We'll meet again. I promise!'
A second promise she has ever made in her entire life so far that was not spoken with the entire truth. There is no way to know whether it would come true or not; just like you wouldn't know how you will die, what you would get exactly on a test, or what is going to happen in many years to come.
We can hope and dream to fill such promises, though we truly do not know how it will fully turn. It can be for the best, or it can be for the worst.
'See, we've met again, just like I promised we would.'
The relief spoken for itself in that one mere sentence can convey the feelings you've felt until the time of the fulfillment, yet one must truly look to truly see it.
And in the span between then and now, a thought has lingered in her mind, clawing at her conscious and bothering her all the while.
She herself should really stop making promises she is not sure to keep.
