Stay With Me

(BLEACH)

Disclaimer: Don't own BLEACH, nope.

He had recently developed the habit of lounging beneath the shade of the cherry tree outside the 8th Division office.

Under normal circumstances, she wouldn't have given it a second thought – but the papers had begun to pile upon on his desk, while hers remained delicately organized, the papers set in two equal stacks - and hers were actually finished. Sighing, she carefully slipped out of the office and approached him with the same calm, stoic expression she always wore.

"Taichou—"

"Nanao-Chan! How generous of you to grace me with your presence!" he said, never lifting his hat from over his eyes. He lay there, sprawled out on top of the grass in a considerably undignified manner, and she let out an unimpressed noise in response.

"Sir, you haven't finished your papers…" she said, looking away when she noticed that he had tipped his hat upwards so that it no longer covered his eyes. He channeled his amorous gaze in her direction, but she paid no attention.

"Oh, is that so?" he said in his usual drawl, replacing the hat and sinking lower to the ground, "I may consider finishing them, if you'd be so kind to sit with me for a while, Nanao-Chan."

After a fierce internal struggle, she complied for the first time in her life. Why she did it, she did not know, but she silently padded over to the tree and sank to the ground beside her captain, placing her book between them (as a barrier between them, she assured herself. But she secretly wished she hadn't put it there). He chuckled, a deep rumble from his chest, and put his arm around her, removing his hat one last time and setting it atop her book.

"Ah, my beautiful Nanao-Chan… May you never change."
