He thought that working as a life guard at the YMCA three years ago made him pretty hot stuff.

And yes, in the most general sense of the phrase, that's exactly what Bellamy Blake was. He was all dark curls and tanned skin and dimples and literally every part of his body screamed hot stuff, but being able to do a basic-ass dive off of the side of her father's boat and float on his back did not make him any cooler than he believed he was. Not to Clarke, who could do both as well and didn't need to look so damn cocky about it.

But this was Bellamy, who acted like a cocky prick about just about everything he did. Clarke damned herself for loving it so much.

"You should really come back to the boat and put on more sunscreen," she chastised him from the back of her father's pontoon, watching her idiot boyfriend swim in lazy circles in the middle of the lake.

"Why, you afraid of the sun, princess?"

She rolled her eyes as she slathered more of the cool lotion on her shoulders.

"The sun? No. Skin cancer caused by harmful UV rays? Yeah, a little."

She squealed a bit when he smacked the water near her, coming close to soaking her with a mini tidal wave of water. She would be ready in a moment, once her sun protection was finished drying, but the devious smirk on Bellamy's face told her that she might not have that long.

"Bellamy, don't you dare–!"

She couldn't finish her statement because her very cocky boyfriend was gripping her leg and tugging her into the lake into the lake with him, laughing when she resurfaced and sputtered wet curses at him.

"Don't worry, princess, I'm a life guard. I'd never let you drown."

"Not so cocky now, are we?" Clarke said with a snicker as she massaged Bellamy's shoulders with aloe vera.

"Shut up, Clarke," he said sullenly, hissing when she touched a part of his skin that was already starting to peel. Turns out, Bellamy Blake's signature freckles only surfaced after he had gotten extremely sunburned, something that Clarke took a little too much delight in discovering.

"This is what you get for not applying more sunscreen," she admonished, pressing a light kiss on the feverish skin on the back of his neck. Bellamy flinched again and Clarke couldn't help but show a cocky grin of her own.
