~Munich, Germany - July 12, 1944~

Sargent Alexander Harris, Xander to his friends, lay in the belltower of the church silently. Xander was the best sniper in the US Army, but he hated these kinds of missions. He was ordered to kill a captured US Army Captain. There was still about three hours till the target arrived so Xander let his mind drift back to the briefing two days before.

~Flashback - London, England - July 10, 1944~

"Sargent Harris. Please sit." A Major said. Xander sat in a typical top secret briefing room, with the table surrounded by Brass. "Here is your target." The Major said. "The Captain was captured two weeks ago and is currently in transit to an SS interrogation centre in Munich. It is imperative that the Captain does not reach the centre alive." Xander knew the Captain, who had been his CO at the time of capture. "Why, Sir?" Xander asked. "The Captain, through certain political connections both here and in the States, is privileged to the most secret operations, with operational knowledge of vital planed offensives. This information must not fall into enemy hands. You will be parachuted in here *pointing to the map* and will make you way to the target area by any available means.." Xander's mind wandered while the rest of the briefing continued, as he would remember it anyway. Xander remembered how the Captain had always been welcome in any social or political circle as a friend of high political figures and Generals and because the Captain was renowned as a brilliant strategist.

~End Flashback~

Xander heard the rhythmic steps of troops. Moving to the edge and readying his sniper rifle, Xander looked down on the square outside the SS centre and hope died. He had hoped that the Captain would be lightly guarded and that would allow escape if he took out the guards, however the Captain was surrounded by over twenty crack SS troops. Xander closed his eyes for a second, praying desperately for a way out of this mess, however none came. A single shot rang out and the blond Captain of the US Army tumbled to the ground. Xander looked down at the body in the square. The blond hair, the emerald green eyes. The petite body. Captain Elisabeth 'Buffy' Summers was dead at his hands. His friend, CO, love of his life and fiancé lay dead in the square. Ten seconds after the first shot rang it was joined by a second, muffled shot. This time no one in the square fell. Xander had committed suicide, condemning himself to Hell for eternity for failing to protect the one he loved more than life itself.
