AN:
Another one of my patented "I got bored during fourth period" deals. I'm getting more and more them, have you noticed? Oh well. We usually take notes during fourth, so it's not hard to scribble something out. This actually began as a title that just popped into my head, and I wanted to try my hand at another fanfic poem, so I put a couple of numbers together (in my calculator) and got some other number. So here goes nothing. I hope you enjoy. I don't own DBZ.Upturned Face
You are alone, warrior
Fighter, son, brother, friend
Alone
Stranded
And no one knows where, nor will they search
Why should they look for someone they've been told
Is dead?
By all accounts, you should be dead
Are you fortunate in still being alive?
Are you lucky to have retained your life?
Perhaps, perhaps not
The battle was lost before it had even begun, warrior
And this is the penalty for losing
The punishment for defeat is to fight again
This time for life itself, for breath,
For the simple ability to move
Your efforts, noble as they were,
Ended in injury, solitude, agony, and blood
You took the chance, fighter, and you lost
And so you pay the price by feeling your life
Slipping away, falling through your fingers
How will this battle end?
Survival or death?
Only time will tell, but the situation is grim
Precarious
You are dancing on the edge of a narrow cliff
Tiptoeing along the very rim of the precipice
But with no way to pull yourself back up
Should you fall, and falling means death
Even now, the thin ice that supports your life cracks
Threatening to break through at any moment
But you are still alive
And still alone
You have a family, noble warrior
What of them? They do not know of you
They do not realize that you remain still
Lingering in the land of the living
A family and friends, good friends
They mourn for someone not yet departed
Someone who has not yet crossed over
Someone not yet dead, but barely alive
And a world that does not know
Does not know of your situation
Would they care, even if they did know?
You fought for this world, heroic fighter
You fought to protect a place and a people
Who would never know you
And never remember your name
You sacrificed, and you suffered
And what did you receive for your pain?
Nothing…but loss
But you persevered, strong one
Just like today, when you fought a losing battle
And your reward for your sacrifice remains the same
The same as it has been for all your life
And so you lay, warrior
Sprawled on your back
Your bruised face is upturned looking towards the heavens
Like a flower reaching for that last bit of sunlight
But the trees block out the sun
And through the canopy of branches and leaves
The light cannot be seen
Leaving shade on the ground
Mere shadows thrown across the blood-soaked grass
And across a fallen hero's upturned face
AN: Good, bad, what? This is kind of a tribute to Gohan when he's laying unconscious in the woods after that whole thing with Majin Buu. But I'm sure y'all could figure that one out. Duh! Okay, now I'm just babbling. Sorry 'bout that. Thanks for reading!
