I stumbled across this song (Something stupid - Robbie Williams) and I immediately thought of Sanji. It's my first songfic so enjoy! ... oh, and review!
It was late at night and Sanji stood on at the top of the stairs, looking down to where Nami stood on the deck with her map. The tray of sweets rested on his fingertips. He knew that no matter how hard he tried, how long he waited on her hand and foot, she would never fall into his arms.
"I know I stand in line until you think you have the time to spend an evening with me. And if we go someplace to dance I know that there's a chance you won't be leaving with me" he thought as he watched Nami roll up the map.
But even though she would not love him back, he would not give up. Even when he had convinced her to come and join him for a drink, no matter how careful he was, he couldn't hold the moment.
"Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place and have a drink or two, and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I love you." Sanji descended down the stairs.
This was it, he had to tell her what was on his mind.
"I can see it in your eyes that you despise the same old lines you heard the night before. And though it's just a line to you for me it's true and never seemed so right before" The words raced in his mind.
He didn't understand why the words weren't coming out his mouth, they were stuck in his head. It was so unlike him to freeze up like that. But he had to say it, tell her what was on his mind and then she would understand why he always acts the way he does. He had to tell her.
"I practice every day to find some clever lines to say to make the meaning come true. But then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late and I'm alone with you" Still the words didn't come from his lips.
That was it, he was going to say it. His mind raced and his stomach churned. It was killing him inside because the words wouldn't come out. Nami still hadn't seen him and she remained looking at the horizon.
"The time is right your perfume fills my head the stars get red and oh the night's so blue. And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I love you" Sanji still didn't understand why the words didn't come forth.
"I love you"
The words still stuck in his head, desperately trying to get out.
"I love you"
Maybe it just wasn't meant to be.
"I love you"
Maybe she wasn't supposed to know.
"I love you..."
Nami turned around. "Nani?"
Sanji realised that he had actually said it, and it wasn't just an echo in his head. He knew what he was going to say next, and he knew he would not be able to stop himself. Once more he could do nothing more than be awed by her and compliment her. He could feel the tear deep in his chest.
He held out the tray of sweets for her. "Nothing overly important, my beautiful Nami-swan."
.;'jade';.
