The House on Maple Street

It was a perfect lift-off. Three Fifty-eight A.M. April Seventh, Two Thousand Nine. All was still on Maple Street, quiet, peaceful even. A young child around eight was staring solemnly up at the stars. "They're coming." He whispered to himself.

He ran down the steps of his two-story home, hoping that someone would believe him. "This time…" He thought, "Maybe this time we can be prepared." When this young boy was, well, even younger, he promised that aliens had visited Earth, Dangerous aliens from unknown planets such as Galafrey and Irk.

The young child was the only one who remembered, for everyone else had gotten brain-washed. The boy stopped halfway down the stairs, his black trench-coat swirling behind him. He stared out the window, shivering in fear.

He stood in awe, watching the sturdy foundation of the strange house ripping itself from the ground. The boy stood motionless. Up in the third story of the house the light was blinking, on and off…. On and off… The tree outside was quivering, it's movement got faster and faster until it was just a blur. The boy's eye twitched as a smile broke across his face.

They were leaving. But this didn't explain the flashing light. The boy ran outside looking up at the house. He ran up to the door, and opened it before the house could take off. He looked at the inside of the house, surprised at how normal everything looked.

He ripped his gaze from the mesmerizing scene, and ran up to the third story. Huh, this was strange. No one was there, not even a cat, but the light switch moved without assistance, and the lights still flickered on and off, on and off. He heard a small squeak, and turned to see a small rabbit at the door. He walked up to it but noticed the rabit had something dripping from his chin. That something was blood! As the boy discovered this, the lights stopped, leaving him in complete…. Darkness…
