Everything had gone to hell, to be frank. Everyone was fighting, and far too many had lost their lives already. But if there was anything good about the current situation, it was getting to run into Hide again. But for Kaneki, even this reunion was bittersweet. Hide seemed slightly saddened by all the events that had transpired, and seeing his sadness broke Kaneki's heart.

"You're getting pretty famous you know. People have been calling you eyepatch." Hide said, putting a hand over one of his eyes. "I see you're styling it up" Hide joked, a quiet laugh escaping him. Kaneki smiled, glad that Hide could still joke around like he used to. "Yea, but I see your style hasn't changed at all" he said. Hide started to laugh, but quickly stopped, clutching his side as it spilled blood onto the floor.

"Hide?" Kaneki asked. No response. Hide tried to walk forward, but he stumbled and fell onto his knees. Kaneki ran to Hide, lifting him onto his lap. "Kaneki, can I ask you something?" Hide asked. Kaneki nodded. "Can… Can I kiss you?"

Kaneki was shocked by the question. Did Hide have feelings for him this whole time? That would explain so many things- and he was so stupid not to notice it earlier- and maybe if he had- goddammit idiot, stupid, stupid, stupid-

"Kaneki, don't give me that look. None of this is your fault, ok?" Hide said, giving Kaneki a hug. Kaneki reluctantly returned the hug, guilt still plaguing his mind. Hide pulled away from the hug, and looked Kaneki in the eyes before pulling him in for a kiss. It was rather awkward considering that neither of them had any idea what they were doing, but before they knew it, they were kissing again and again, until the two of them ran out of breath.

Hide finally pulled away to get some air, and said "Kaneki, let's go home" as he closed his eyes and leaned his head on Kaneki's shoulder. Kaneki ran his fingers through Hide's hair, then checked his pulse. It was getting quicker and weaker by the second. For the first time, the reality of the situation truly sunk in, and he realized that Hide was going to die. A few tears leaked from his human eye, then from his ghoul eye, sliding down his face and landing on Hide's.

Hide smiled weakly, and Kaneki tried to dry his tears. "Yea, let's go home Hide" He said, carrying Hide as he slowly walked out of the burning ruins of Anteiku.
