A/N: Parody of a sonnet. Because I was bored. Praises the trilogy and Tolkien. Hope you are amused.
Shall I compare thee to Gandalf the Grey?
(Apologies to William Shakespeare)
Shall I compare thee to Gandalf the Grey?
Thou art more learnèd and more venerate.
Dark mines do take the fire bright as day;
Mithrandir's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the mood of wizards seem,
And often is his wise appearance dimmed;
And every flame from flame sometime won't gleam,
By change or temper's changing course untrimmed.
But thy eternal legend shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of knowledge thou ow'st;
Nor Balrogs brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal tomes of lore thou grow'st:
So long as men can read, or eyes can see,
So long lives thine books, which gives life to thee.
