It was a rare thing, for the Winchester brothers to not be on a case. Sam decided to let Dean go have some special quiet alone time with Castiel. Dean decided to take Castiel to California to enjoy the coast. The two of them had a nice little cozy hotel room right on the beach, everything seemed perfect, well almost.
Castiel sat up in the bed looking over at Dean, who was snoozing away peacefully. Castiel never slept, and even he tried he still could not. He observed Dean's gentle movements, how his chest would rise and fall, how he would turn from side to side, and the sleepy groans he would make. He put a hand to Dean's cheek, "You are truly the most beautiful thing my Father has created. I don't deserve such beauty as you, let alone be in your presence."
"Yes you do."
Castiel turned to see Dean smiling with his eyes half opened, "Did I wake you Dean?"
"No to be honest, I was pretending to be asleep on and off. The adrenaline from earlier is still pumping." Dean yawned, "Why aren't you asleep?"
"I've told you before Dean, angels do not sleep. I have never even had a dream or a nightmare. Besides as an angel it is my job to watch over you."
Dean scooted closer to Cas snuggling up against his bare chest, "What's really on your mind Cas? Don't you dare say it's nothing because I know all your looks too well now."
Castiel sighed deeply before kissing Dean's cheek, "I was thinking of doing something."
Dean stared blankly at Cas, "Okay thanks for being so specific, what's the something?"
"The something has to do with my grace."
"What about your grace?" Asked Dean, he looked at Castiel who was silent. Dean began to shake his head, "No...no...not your grace Castiel. Why are you thinking of giving up your grace?"
Castiel looked into Dean's beautiful green eyes, "I could be normal like you Dean. I could sleep and dream next to you, I could grow old with you, and I would be able to eat when we go out for a meal together. I want to be mortal...I want to be normal like you. I've already rebelled what difference does it make?"
Dean cupped his hands around Castiel's stress stricken face. "Your grace doesn't make me love you any less. It's what makes you so special, deep down I know you wouldn't want to give that up. You don't want to give that up for me."
"How do you know what I want?" Cas spat at Dean clenching his teeth together, "Do you know the true burden of immortality? I have to stay the same age, while everyone else I care about dies, Sam, Bobby, and even you too Dean. I couldn't bare the thought of living forever without the man I love at my side, I need you Dean. I want us to grow old and die together, so we can be at peace forever."
Crystal blue tears ran down Dean's cheeks, "Wow, I never knew you felt that way about it, but Cas even if you were to give up your grace, you have to put it somewhere. Where, and who would you give it to for safe keeping?"
Castiel embraced Dean, "I would put it in a bottle, and give it to you to keep as a symbol of my eternal love and sacrifice."
Dean kissed Castiel passionately on the lips, "Thank you. For now, please hold onto your grace for a little longer. I still want you to be my angel."
Castiel leaned his head against Dean's shoulder, "Even if was no longer an angel, I will always be your angel. To make you happy, I'll keep my grace for now."
Dean pulled Castiel down under the covers with him. "Thank you Cas, I love you."
Cas smiled, "I love you too."
