Summary: Vin and JD come across Ezra hiding in the stables.
Challenge: This fic was originally an attempt to answer Anneack's drabble challenge of 5-26-10, but I had misread the challenge. I didn't want to just toss the fic, however, and as there was no need to cut it down to 100 words, I left it as it stood. Short but, hopefully, worth the read. :-)

"Unca Ezra, whatcha doin' in the stables?" JD asked, peering into the darkness of the stables.
"Ah am hiding," Ezra admitted hushedly, "from a most hideous creature called menial labor."
"Can we hide too?" Vin requested to which JD eagerly nodded his head.
"Please?" the youngest pleaded.
Ezra spread his arms wide. "There is plenty of room, children, but do shut the doors behind you."
"Yeah!" Vin and JD hurried into the stables, but it seemed that no sooner had they shut the big doors behind them than Chris' booming voice was heard calling all three of their names. The kids started to answer him but found their mouths suddenly covered by Ezra's soft hands.
The gambler waited until he could no longer hear Chris calling them before letting the boys go. "Children," he tisked when the danger had passed, "Rule #1 of avoiding such a beast is declining to answer it."
"Huh?" JD asked. "Whatcha mean, Unca Ez?"
"We's were just gonna answer my Da," Vin said.
"Precisely," Ezra replied, his gold tooth shining in their dusky surroundings.
