"Snow"

Katara stared out over the ice and penguins covering the frozen tundra. She could hear Aang and Sokka parading and whooping through the Southern Water Tribe Village. She smiled, touching the newly carved engagement necklace at her neck.

It had been almost six years since Aang had defeated the Firelord Ozai. Since then, she, Aang, Sokka, Toph, and Suki had traveled around the world, helping people that had been devastated by the war. They had, of course, been accompanied by Appa and Momo, and had come back to the South Pole every few months to visit.

This was one such visit, and then they were off to the Fire Nation. A letter had arrived from Zuko the day before, inviting them to his and Mai's wedding.

And Aang. Aang had been the highlight of her world for the past six years. He was so vibrant, so full of life, but also so focused, kind, and forgiving. He'd matured so much from the little twelve year old boy Katara and Sokka had found in the iceberg so long ago. Katara's hand wandered to her engagement necklace again. Aang had told her that he'd asked her father for her hand in marriage two years ago, promising to wait until his seventeenth birthday. He father had agreed, and, true to his word, Aang had waited and asked her a few weeks ago, on his seventeenth birthday. She'd said yes, of course, and he had presented her with the necklace.

The necklace was unique, different from any of the other engagement necklaces Katara had ever seen. It had a small flower made of sea shells hanging under a round disc made of smooth stone. The flower had been on the necklace Aang had made her back when they were still on the run and she had lost her mother's necklace. The disc above it had been earth bended from the palace in the Fire Nation, the spot of their first kiss as a couple. Aang had then carved an arrow, one resembling the ones he wore on his feet, hands, and head, into the surface.

She loved the necklace, but her musings about it were interrupted. Katara felt something hit shoulder and she whirled to find Aang, Sokka, and Suki standing ten feet behind her. Sokka and Suki had snowballs in their hands, but Aang was empty handed, grinning mischievously at her.

"Aang!" she said. The group snickered. Toph wandered out, touching the ice formations around her since she had to wear boots to keep her feet warm. She sat heavily on the ground, head directed towards the sound of Katara's voice.

"If you guys are gonna have a snowball fight, don't hit me," she called.

Katara waved her arms, bending the snow into a ball, then thrust them forward, throwing the bended snowball straight at Aang. It hit him in the on the nose and he went cross eyed, twitching his face. She giggled, and yelled, "SNOWBALL FIGHT!"

The fight ensued, Toph yelling, "HEY!" every so often, and once, "WHY ARE YOU SUCH A LUNATIC?" when someone hit her. The thrower would yell back, "SORRY!" before continuing. Even Momo got in on the fun, tossing snow aimlessly into the air and chittering excitedly.

Once, Katara hit Aang and ran off, shrieking with laughter. Aang sprinted after her, easily catching up. He grabbed her around the waist, their momentum carrying them into a circle. When they stopped spinning they just held each other, laughing maniacally.

Eventually they calmed down, and Katara leaned her cheek against Aang's chest, and he buried his face in her loose hair.

That was when she saw it.

"Aang," she whispered. He straightened and looked down at her. She gestured with her head, directing his attention at the large circle of ice, half blown open, next to them.

He sucked in a breath. "Where we began," he said softly. She nodded, and together they stared at the monument to their beginning.
