HIM
His heartbeat always skipped a little when he saw her. He loved when she wore her hair down and it curled around her shoulders. He loved the way it framed her face and made her blue eyes look bigger. She looked like the girl he wished he could've known years ago. Before life and heartache tore at her and made her the fiercely independent woman she was today.
HER
She felt heat creep into her cheeks when their held for just a few moments too long. She wanted to spend a night gazing into those soulful eyes, which told of secrets hiding deep inside. A night of staring into those eyes might actually unlock the secret of who he was, but instead of voicing her desire, she always let her eyes drop down first.
HIM
Whenever they stood too close, he had to think of things that weren't sexy. The heat of her body always seemed to wrap around him and it didn't take much to fantasize about what other kinds of heat her body would offer to him. He made up for the way he sometimes had to stand still beside her, in fear that their bodies would brush, by flinging out an insult. She would usually step away from, thinking up her own and he would be able to relax.
HER
Yelling at him always made her feel a little more powerful. She loved the way he straightened his body indignantly and even the insults he spat out were welcome. The fire that he always had rushing through him made her feel a little more alive. Life was more interesting when they yelled at one another. She usually had to storm around the hospital after a shouting match, but when it was with him, she would usually retreat into her office. She would think of the way his face clearly enjoyed the mayhem and she would allow herself the laugh that she couldn't let out in front of him.
HIM
He wanted her to himself. He hated when her eyes lit up for someone else, even if it was another woman. It wasn't just her body he wanted. He wanted her smile, her blue eyes, her intelligence. He wanted to know every little piece of her and he wanted her to share it only with him. He wanted to know that she was his only and that she wanted to be his. It wasn't enough to have her- he wanted her to be willing to be only his.
HER
She could break him easily, she knew, so she tried hard to protect him. He always poured his heart and soul into his lovers and wanted the same from them. She wanted this closeness, but the fear of failure always stopped her. What if it didn't work out? She had learned how to guard herself, but even after all he had been through, he still surrendered himself with complete trust. She knew that if she added another crack to his fragile façade, it would shatter him completely.
BOTH
The secret glances continued. The bickering like an old married couple continued, but there was now a tint of sorrow accompanying it. Fear of failure and loss, they could never surrender to one another what they wanted. They could never find comfort in an intimate embrace. Their affair was ended before it even began.
House met her eyes slowly. Their glance was one of resigned sorrow. It ended almost instantly as Cuddy dropped her gaze to the papers on her desk. A moment to grieve passed and life continued as usual.
