Disclaimer: Sadly, I don't own Death Note. And if I did a whole lot of people would still be alive.

"No, no that's not it," Near muttered to himself. It had been a long day and he was trying to figure out how to catch the current L and prove he was Kira. Swivelling in his chair he turned around.

Mello.

What was he doing here? Wasn't he dead? Near shook his head. I'm probably not getting enough sleep. Though, he continued to stare.

"Hello Near," the dead Mello said. Near blinked twice and turned to see Gevanni and Linder busy on the computers. He walked towards Mello and stared at his face in a very L like fashion. He blinked again and poked his face. Mello flinched and stared back.

'He feels real, so he has to be real…' Near thought, I really do need more sleep. 'Turing around once more he said, "I'll be right back." He got a mumble of an okay from Gevanni. Staring at Mello again he turned and walked for the door to "his" room. Mello had got up right behind him and followed.

Turing to look at Mello for what felt like the millionth time in a span of five minutes he said, "You're supposed to be dead."

"I am." Was all the response that Near got. Near didn't know what to do, he always had a plan. He did the only thing that made sense to him, sat down on the floor, and started passed Mello's legs at nothing.

Mello, pulling out a chocolate bar (who knew the dead could eat chocolate?), sat down across from Near. Minutes passed with nothing but silence. Probably the quietest moment the two ever had. Normally, if you put them in a room together it would be nothing but yelling. Well…all of that yelling came from Mello but that's beside the fact.

Just as Mello was opening his mouth to say something Near spoke, "I miss you."

Mello's eye's widened,. "Excuse me, what?" Near stated again, simply, "I miss you." An awkward silence filled the room. Mello shifted, "You … miss me?"

"I guess you don't realize how much you miss something until it's gone." Near started looking past Mello again.

'This isn't like Near'. Mello thought. He was expecting a long-winded speech about how stupid he had been, and all the things he did wrong. Instead he got--

A kiss.

Near kissed him and pulled back before Mello had a chance to react.

What the hell? Mello touched his lips. He could see a small blush on the younger boys face, "Near?"

"Yes, Mello?" Near stared at him unblinkingly. Mello moved closer, "What was that for?"

"Well, I thought it was quite obvious." Mello raised an eyebrow and brought some chocolate to his lips, "Obvious?"

"I never had the chance to do that when you were alive and, well, you felt real enough," A blush still evident on his face. Near gave Mello one of his rare smiles and stood up. Looking up at Near from the floor he realized how much he missed the younger boy too.

Standing up he turned to Near, "Well seeing as how I'm dead or maybe half-dead, I don't know and probably won't be here for much longer. We should get down to business."

"Get down to business? Half-dead? Shouldn't you be in the afterlife?" Near looked puzzled. His head hurt.

Mello gave him one of his signature smirks, "Yes, business. The rest of the questions we can answer later. If they're even answerable.. But for now…" And pressed his lips against Nears.

END.

A/N: -gasp- That was my first story. I can tell it isn't ahhamzingg!!1!!1! so I'm hoping for some constructive criticism. But besides that I hope you enjoyed it. I know a bit weird, dead Mello and all. But weird things tend to come to me during school. Review pretty please? : D
