As Aang and Katara parted from their hug and looked at each other, they knew what came next. After everything they'd been through, they only wanted to be with each other. The leaned in and as their lips touched, they heard the music start to swell in the background. Everything they had gone through made this moment worth it.
"Wow, Katara. I didn't know you felt that way about me." Aang said as they slowly pulled away. They were still holding each other.
"Well, Aang, this war has made me realize something. With losing my mom, and my dad leaving us alone with Gran Gran when we were so young, I've learned that you have to follow your heart, before it's too late to lose what you really love. I've always admired you, your bravery, your determination to save the world, no matter the cost or the sacrifices you've had to make, and it's just made me realize that you're the thing I want the most. We've been through so much together, and you've helped me more that you could ever realize. I hope you know that."
Katara smiled at him, and with everything that had just happened around them, every part of the world that got destroyed and was slowly starting to grow back again, Aang was happy he had found something more worth fighting for.
"I do." he said.
He took her hand, and together, they walked back into Iroh's tea shop.
"Well you two, it's about time..." said Sokka as soon as they walked in. He, of course, had been the first to spot them. "I mean, obviously, I always knew you two would end up together, but it's nice to see you guys finally realized it too." he said, smirking and puffing out his chest in a proud, satisfied, manly way.
Katara smacked his arm. "Ow! Hey! What was that for?"
"Oh, just some sisterly love." she said, batting her eyes at him and smiling sweetly and innocently.
"Hmmm..." he said, rubbing his arm and walking back towards Suki.
"Nice going, twinkle toes. You and sugar queen make a cute couple."
"Thanks, Toph." said Aang. Katara was so happy she didn't even get mad at Toph for calling her sugar queen.
"Oh, yes, very nice indeed." said Iroh, taking a long sip of his tea.
Aang saw Zuko smiling at him in the corner of the room, his arm around May, and smiled back at him. This friendship was a bond, a union, something so much more that that, and he knew it would last forever.
"Well, this sure is a great day to be the Avatar." said Aang, mostly to himself. Just trying to convive himself that this was real was enough to make him truly appreciate everything and everyone around him.
"It sure is." said Katara, before pulling him back in for a kiss.
