Midnight Ride
A fanfiction by Phoenix Donovan
Prologue
It was damp where Cho Chang stood. Her dark eyes glistened in the dark, and she stayed still and silent, all the while listening for the noise. In a moment she heard a small click and she knew that the door had been opened. She stepped forward, tucking her wand into her waistband. She would not need it where she was going.
"Your destination?" a voice asked. Cho had stepped into an invisible transport room, and now the door closed behind her, and an elderly witch sat behind the desk at the far end of the room, watching the young woman with thin eyes. Cho stepped more into the room.
"King's Crossing," she said.
The old witch handed her a ticket. "Your train will arrive shortly."
And just as the older woman said, the train arrived a short moment later, blowing Cho's long, dark hair back as it screeched to a hault. Cho boarded without hesitation. The inside of the train was stuffy and old, and she grimaced as she sat on the torn seat, the fabric ripped away to reveal a cold metal frame. A man from across the room eyed Cho and she caught notice of it, and gripped her wand. Perhaps she would have to be more careful, after all. But he was an older, heavy-set man and he seemed to grasp the young Asian lass's motion rather quickly, and turned his away.
She retrieved a piece of parchment and a quill and ink from her bag and began to write vigorously.
Hawk,
I have boarded, and perimeters appear to be safe, minus the typical fleas that ride the trains this way. Will see you at the place, at the time.
