Noda knew he had the best axe. It was a fact. He loved his axe. It was his life. It was his breath. It was his love. The only thing he had ever loved more than his axe was Yurippe, and he didn't know if she was still at the Not Yet Dead Battlefront or if she had moved on. And he really hoped she hadn't found peace. As selfish as it was, he would rather she be troubled and remember him than she be at peace and not.

Noda didn't even know why he remembered the Afterlife. Otonashi had told him he wouldn't remember. Damn Otonashi. Noda wished he were here now, so Noda could actually kill him. With the best axe ever.

Since he was already thinking about axes, when he saw a gorgeous axe over the shoulder of a tall blonde guy wearing a tiny hat, he figured he was just seeing his own axe projected by his mind onto an innocent tourist. He blinked, but the axe stayed where it was.

Noda frowned. What was this? How had that guy even gotten an axe into the country? He was obviously not Japanese.

Noda ran up to Guy, put a hand on his shoulder. "Hey guy!" he shouted. "Wanna test your axe on mine?"

Guy looked unimpressed. "How would we do that?"

"First to die loses!" Uh oh. People were looking alarmed. Noda probably shouldn't have said that.

Guy snapped his gum. "I'd surely win, then."

Angry at Guy's lack of interest or fear, Noda spun his axe so it was pointed at the guy's face. Guy shrugged, and wielded his axe as well.

But then another blonde guy, this one wearing glasses and stockier than the first, put a hand on Guy's shoulder and simply shook his head.

"He wants a fight!" Guy shouted. "Lemme give it to him!"

"No," was all the stocky guy said. But it was enough for Guy, who said, "I guess we'll have to pick this up another time, then," turned, and walked away.

"Yeah!" Noda jeered after him. "You'd better run!"

Guy turned on his heel and started to run at Noda, but the stocky guy grabbed him by the back of the shirt, leaving Guy to swipe ineffectually at the air.

Noda walked away, feeling accomplished. In his mind, he had won the fight. It was enough to get his mind off Yurippe for the moment.

Noda patted his axe. "You're the best," he said.
