Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who

Title: There were always dreams.

Summary: Amy knows what the Doctor had done. Set at the end of Amy's Choice. Just a little something I had to write to get it out of my system. Lemme know what you think! Whilst favourites are always welcome, please spare a minute to send a review. They do make me happy!

"That Doctor," Amy said quietly when they were alone, "Was a very cruel trick."

He turned to look at her, his eyebrows raised. "I don't know what you mean." She hissed angrily and grabbed him fiercely by the shoulders.

"Don't lie to me. You knew I'd have to choose him. I can't have you. I have to choose him." The Doctor gripped her hands and pulled them off him.

"Yes," he spat, "It may have been a cruel trick, but I had to know." Amy starred at him, her mouth open and pain written across her face.

"How could you already not?" She whispered incredulously. He pushed past her, angrily and began fiddling with the controls; deliberately punching buttons as hard as he could.

He thought she had left but then he felt a soft warm body press against his back, moulding against him. He could feel himself sinking into her form and then Amy's arms snuck round his waist as she reached up to whisper in his ear.

"How could you not know I love you. How could you not know that I want to choose you?" She paused and he could feel a tear as it fell from her cheek to his. He forced himself not to turn and brush it away.

"But I cannot be your forever. And I can't live with that."

Then she was gone. Soft footsteps trailing sadly away. No doubt to Rory and the future she had chosen.

The Doctor said nothing. She was right. She couldn't stay with him forever.

And then smiled. Ever so slightly.

But there were always dreams.

With a flick of switch, he settled into the console chair and rested his feet imperiously on the dashboard. Then he closed his eyes.

Yes, one could always dream.
