The Shrine

Detective Kate Beckett was working a case, but not just any case. This case was different; she needed help. You see every murderer follows some sort of pattern, and this particular one was recreating the murders from the books of a particular author. This author's name was Richard Castle, and she decided to call upon him to help with this case since he would naturally be the expert at how they were committed.

But now, he was just annoying. Constantly asking questions and adding unneeded input, thinking he was helping.

They were investigating the suspect's apartment, the place where he kept pictures of all his victims, and targets. And the next target was obvious.

Beckett sent Castle into the next room to "help" her colleagues Ryan and Esposito, while she gaped at her discovery.

The entire wall of the closet was plastered with pictures of Castle; he was to be the next victim. And in the very center of this morbid shrine was a drawing, a drawing of a scene she recognized.

Kate was a fan of Castle's books so she recognized the drawing of the murder that took place in one of his books, "Storm Winds".

The detective knew Castle could never know this, because if he would ever find out about this plan to end his life with so much irony, nothing would ever be the same.

The drawing was quite gruesome and detailed. It was both of these things but at the same time it was very simple and sloppy; done almost as if the artist were in a hurry.

The drawing was of a body hanging by its ankle from the balcony of a building. Beckett could not tell from the picture, but she knew the corpse would be missing its nose, and lips; along with having deep lacerations on the neck and stomach.

If Rick Castle ever discovered this plot one of two things would happen; either he would become paranoid and stop writing, or he would get such a big head that she would never be able to knock him back down to size. She hasn't known him long enough yet to know which was more likely to happen.

Kate quickly shuts the closet and locks it, vowing to return later that night to make sure none of this ever found Castle's ever-watchful eyes. She then returned to the rest of the investigation with more determination than ever to catch this villain. Even just to simply save the life of this… intriguing man she has so recently met.

"Find anything?" Castle asks as she returns to the group.

"Nothing of consequence." replies Beckett.

Just as she thinks she is in the clear Ryan finds the closet. "You guys need to get a look at this!" he says.

Immediately Castle rushes to see what Ryan is so excided about.

"Oh. My. God." was all that Castle could manage.

Beckett's second-guess from earlier was the reaction Castle ended up having. And it annoyed the crap out of her to see the delight spread across his face as he examined the discovery.

"How can you be enjoying this Castle?" Beckett asked.

"Because, this shows just how devoted my fans are; that they would recreate one of my most gruesome scenes for my own demise." he responded.

"But, what kind of devoted fan would want the person they show so much devotion to dead?" Kate asked.

"The kind I want to have, but never meet!" Castle replied sarcastically.
