Chapter 1

Running at a rhythmic pace, Tony glanced up at the dark sky. It was 9 p.m. and he was halfway through the route when the thunder started rumbling. It has been a hell of a week for all of them. The last case was hard. It was always hard when there're kids involved. A young marine got back from her assignment to find that her husband is abusing the son. Apparently she was already traumatized while on her assignment upon seeing kids being murdered that she went beserk and killed her husband. It was not fair though that they had to send the mother away and leaving the son in child services custody until they can find him a new home. Gosh that kid would be scarred for life. Losing both his parents at the same time.

It was his routine. Running helps to clear his mind. Take the burden off his shoulders. After Gibbs told them to call it a day, instead of going home, Tony steered his direction towards the nearest park. Changing into his running gear, he started slowly and went faster until his lungs started to warn him to take it easy. God, he's getting old.

Tony picked up his pace upon hearing another roar of thunder. Running in the rain would be the most terrible idea for now. And he is trying his best not to be caught in the rain. Unfortunately, just as he was passing through a desserted area, the rain poured down heavily without any warning. He looked around for some shelter and only managed to find a tree wide enough to cover his figure. Shivering from the cold, he waited for the rain to slow down. His thoughts started to wander to that day on the rooftop. It always has whenever the rain falls. Even after years, he still feels that it should've been him and not Kate that died on the rooftop. She had too much to live for and him? They will definitely get over him after a few months.

And now he's forty, still haven't settle down while his friends are already having kids running around. Still doing the same job, facing the same shit everyday. Sometimes he's just tired of having to pretend that everything is perfect when it's far from it. Sometimes he wonder what would it be if Kate was the one who survived. Surely right now she would be happily married with kids and become a successful agent, probably leading her own team. He really misses her lately.

Sighing loudly, he looked at the sky and made up his mind. There is no way the rain is going to stop anytime soon. He then made a desicion to just run back to his car in the rain. It took him almost five minutes to get back to his car. Usually the five minutes is only a short amount of time. But with the heavy rain, that was the longest five minutes of his life.

Dripping wet from the rain, Tony entered his car and started the engine. He turned the heater on but probably he's luck is running out that the heater decided not to work today. Tony started shivering as the cold air filled the car. He then switched off the airconditioner before driving as fast as he possibly can in the bad weather.

...to be continued.
