Hi this is my first one shot, just a little something to keep me going till I know what to do next. Enjoy!
"Luke, time to get up." I called up the stairs to my apprentice, it was like Luke to get up late, he normally stays up till late, he liked talking to the animals that lived near by but only came out at night; foxes, owls, rats and hedgehogs. I smiled sadly, Luke was a happy child ,and I am glad of that, but I do wish he had some friends that weren't animals. I sometimes surprise myself by thinking like a farther. We needed to talk about it.
Luke came down stairs, "Good morning professor." Luke yawned
"Good morning Luke, I see your tired this morning."
"Just a little, Eva, the fox, she had babies, I mean cubs."
"hum… Luke I need to talk to you, come in to my office."
"Am I in trouble?"
"A little bit my boy."
Luke made a sad little noise, like one a dog would if you scolded it and followed me with his head down into my office.
"Now Luke, I was very worried when you didn't come home till late last night, you know it's not safe for a boy to be on his own."
"I wasn't on my own, I was with my friends."
I sighed "Yes about them Lu-"
"No!" Luke cried out and stood up and ran out of my office.
"Luke wait!" I heard him running upstairs sobbing. "Oh dear..," Luke hardly ever got like this, but when he did it was best to leave him alone for a while, and you'd have to bring something to make up for it if you're the one that made him sad. I set to work making a hot chocolate.
A FEW MUINETS LATER
I opened the door to Luke's bedroom, a crack. "May I come in?" Luke answered with a muffled grunt I presumed was a yes. I opened the door and came in, Luke had wrapped himself in blankets and was sobbing.
"Luke I'm sorry that I upset you, what's wrong?"
"You're going to take my friends away and… you think I'm a freak." came Luke's voice from under the covers.
There was a moment of silence, I was shocked and saddened by these comments. "No, no my boy I would never make you give up your friends because they make you happy, that's what's important."
"What about me being a freak?"
"Luke look at me." Luke tear drenched face came from out of the blankets. "I see you as many things my boy but a freak is not one of them, who could possibly think of you like that?"
"My dad." Well that might answer a few questions. I sighed, Luke had had a bad bringing up before I found him, the lack of trust in other people was natural.
"Luke it is very important that you get some real friends."
"They are real." Luke sobbed.
"Oh sorry I was trying to say friends that are your own… species, not animals."
"But professor people are animals as well."
I laughter, "Right you are Luke, but I want you to make an effort O.K"
There was a pause "O.K… Is that a hot chocolate?"
Ta da!
