I've been going through my fanfiction folders and found a few drabbles I wrote about a year ago for a challenge but never actually uploaded. So I thought I'd upload them now, as a New Year's present!

Here's the first one, my favourite. The main theme of the challenge was 'celebration', and the prompt for this round was 'colours'.

A Brief Calm

The colours of the evening bleed into one another as the last course is cleared from the table. The conversation is buzzing as those present savour their newfound freedom. For too long, they have been forced to speak in whispers.

As soon as she heard the news, Molly Weasley did what she did best: she prepared a meal. The Diggorys, the Fawcetts and the Lovegoods have all converged on the Burrow to celebrate. After all, they have had precious little to celebrate for eleven years.

The babies, Ginny and Luna, have long since fallen asleep, but the adults don't have the heart to send the other children to bed. Most of them are too young to understand what has happened, but their parents' excitement is infectious all the same. In one astonishing night, the fear has disappeared, and suddenly these families have their whole lives to look forward to. They can watch these children grow up without the threat of death and darkness hanging over their heads.

The candles they have lit in honour of James and Lily burn orange in the night, and the adults hold up their glasses and say "To Harry Potter—The Boy Who Lived!"

There we are, I hope you enjoyed it. Please review if you did (or even if you didn't!)
