Breaking The Rules

"I don't think I'm technically allowed to be up here," Lily said, standing in the doorway of the marauders' dorm.

"Don't worry, Sirius brings girls up here all the time," James reassured her, walking into the room.

"Right, cause that makes me feel better," Lily replied.

"Lily, come in," James said. "If it is actually against the rules-"

"It is," Lily interrupted.

"-then you're more likely to get caught in the hallway," James finished. "No one's going to walk in, and catch you."

"You do realize you have roommates, don't you?"

"Yes, but my roommates are also, what do you always call us? Oh yeah, marauders."

"Remus isn't really a marauder," Lily said thoughtfully.

"That's what you think. That's what he likes everyone to think."
"What do you mean?"

"You only see the good, responsible side of him. But when you get down to it, he's a marauder through and through."

"Are you sure you're not just saying that because he's always willing to take part of the blame for all your pranks?"

"Why wouldn't he take part of the blame?"

"Because you always drag him into it."

"That's not true!" Lily raised an eyebrow at James' response, and leaned against the doorway, crossing her arms.

"Why don't we ask Remus then?" The question was innocent enough, but Lily could tell by James' worried expression that she was right about what she had said earlier.

"No, no, we don't need to do that," he said, quickly.

"Why not? I'm actually really interested to hear what he says." Lily turned, and was about to walk back down to the Common Room, but then she felt a hand on her arm. Then she was being spun around, and was face to face with James Potter. Their faces were inches apart.

"Don't go," he whispered.

"Why shouldn't I?" she asked. James let go of her arm, and took a step back.

"I finally convinced you to come up here, and now you want to leave," he said. Then as an afterthought, "Not that you've actually stepped into the room yet."

Lily looked down and realized that he was right- she hadn't stepped into his room. Her feet hadn't gone through the doorway. Tentatively, she lifted her foot off the ground and moved it forward. She held it in mid-air for a couple seconds thinking about it. This would be the first time she ever stepped into James Potter's room. It seemed so weird.

"It's still against the rules, you know," she said.

James shrugged, "I never follow the rules."

The boy who had always tried to win her affections. The boy she had turned down thousands of times in the six years they'd known each other. The boy she had always been sure was the most cocky, arrogant person to walk this earth.

At some point though, her feelings had changed. Lily wasn't sure when it had happened, but it did. She had fallen in love with James Potter.

Lily finally put her foot down, and stepped into her boyfriend's room. That sounded weird to her; her boyfriend. Sure, she had dated before, but it had never felt like this. It felt special with James. It felt right.

"Finally," James said, walking towards her, and kissing her on the lips.

They pulled back, and stared at each other for a couple seconds.

"Can I tell you a secret?" Lily asked.

"Anything," James replied. Lily smiled a tiny bit.

"This is the first time I've ever been in a boy's room," she told him. "This is the first time I've done anything that might be against the rules."

"Breaking the rules are we, Miss Evans?" James asked, raising his eyebrows. A smile was tugging at his lips. Lily shrugged and gave him a small kiss.

"What can I say? I'm dating a marauder."
