Thanks for reading!
His golden eyes met with her blue ones. "I don't know how long I'll be gone for." His eyes held honest intentions.
"It doesn't matter. You know me, I'll be here waiting." A small smile graced her face.
"Why, Winry? It's not worth it." He wore a slight grimace.
"Maybe. But you are."
"Don't wait for me."
There was a pause. It was awkward and uncomfortable. Winry interlaced her fingers behind her back as she looked down towards the river and away from the boy stood beside her. "What if I want to?"
"What ifs don't cut it."
"Fine then. Edward Elric, I want to wait for you."
"I don't want you to wait for me. Sure, you're the best mechanic ever, but you could do so much more with your skills."
"I like being your mechanic."
"Is that enough for you? Do you not wish to see what the world has to offer?"
"You do enough of that for the both of us. Friends wait for the other, don't they?"
Golden-yellow eyes cloud over with anger. "What if I die, Winry? I won't be able to come back, and then you'll have wasted your life, because of me! I don't want that!"
"What ifs don't cut it." Winry stuck out her tongue. "Besides, if it was the other way round, would you wait for me?" She paused, as if to let her words sink in and have the desired effect. "I know you and Al need to do this, Ed. I understand that. I've known you both for the longest time know, I know I can wait for you, and do so happily."
"I – I guess, I guess I'd wait for you, if the tables were turned."
"Exactly."
"But I don't know how long we'll –"
"I told you that doesn't matter. I just want you to come back. That all I –"
"This is home, Winry. Our mother would worry too if we didn't drop by every so often. Granny too."
"I want you to call me –"
"Why?"
"I need to know you're okay."
"As long as it's your automail I'm wearing, I'll be fine."
"Well of course you will be!" Winry Rockbell placed her hands on her hips indignantly.
"So I won't need to phone you." A smirk crossed the face of the boy. "Have faith in us."
With that, the golden haired boy walked back up to the house, where his younger brother was helping Granny cook dinner. Just because Al couldn't eat the food, didn't mean he didn't enjoy making it.
The blonde mechanic sank into a crouch, before sitting on the slightly damp grass. The sun was just setting. She couldn't help but to wonder what was going to happen in the future.
One-shot...for now. Please let me know if I should add more! Thanks for reading once again!
