A/N: This is a birthday fic for Smurfgirlz. It's also for the Insane Hose challenge prompt action: cooking. It's 498 words.

Remus looked around the kitchen of Grimmauld Place completely astounded.

There was flour, butter, and chocolate on every surface with a host of discarded pans. It was obvious he was trying to make something but had been unsuccessful.

"You're not supposed to come in here, Moony!" Sirius exclaimed when he saw him.

"I heard an almighty crash and came down to see if you're alright," he replied wondering exactly what was going on.

Sirius' black hair was almost completely white from flour and he had chocolate smeared over his cheek.

"I'm fine, but your surprise isn't," Sirius confessed.

"What surprise is that?"

"I was trying to make you a chocolate cake, but it went wrong every time. I followed the recipe but it doesn't work," he said frustratedly.

"I am sure some of it's edible," Remus said trying to console him.

"It came out burnt, or raw, Moony," he sighed.

"How about we clean up and try it together?" Remus suggested.

"I suppose," Sirius said.

It took them nearly an hour to get everything cleaned properly despite the fact that they had used magic.

Remus didn't know how Sirius had managed it, but some cake mixture had been found on the ceiling as well as the floor and cupboards, and he found himself remembering why Lily never used to let him in her kitchen.

"I fancy a Firewhiskey, do you want one?" Sirius asked just as they were about to sit down for a rest.

"No thanks. I don't think that would be a good idea."

"Do you remember that time I tried to cook us all a meal at James and Lily's?" Sirius asked grinning.

"Which time? If I recall there were two."

"The one where Lily screamed at me to get out of the kitchen and she somehow rescued it."

"She wouldn't let you back in to do dessert even though all you had to do was get it out of the fridge," Remus chuckled.

"That was funny. She wouldn't even listen to me when I tried to say that all I needed was a few plates and a knife," he laughed.

"I'm beginning to think she had the right idea though. You don't seem to be able to cook no matter how hard you try," Remus said lightheartedly.

He really didn't want his boyfriend to take it the wrong way, but he knew how sensitive he could be at times.

"You're right, Remus. I just wish I could do something nice for you that's all," Sirius sighed.

"It's the thought that counts, and the fact we're back together again means much more than a cake."

Sirius lifted his head and looked into Remus' eyes.

"I love you," he said softly.

"I love you too," Remus said taking Sirius' hand in his. "Why don't we go and wash the flour out of your hair?"

Sirius nodded and followed Remus up the stairs, both of them happy that they were finally back together after so long apart.
