This fanfic is not my first ever fanfiction. In fact, it wasn't even my first at the original time of writing. I lied. I'm sorry. It is, however, my first time writing for in about five years. This fanfiction is being rewritten and actually updated (amazing) from now on, until I get bored of this project again. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: I don't own Vocaloid. Or anything referenced in this fanfiction aside from the lead character and the concept of the fanfiction, actually. I'm poor enough as it is, don't sue me.

Chapter One: Discovery

Poof.

I swore under my breath as another lump of snow dropped onto my head, melting quickly to dampen my hair even more. As if it wasn't wet enough. Mother Nature's a bitch, and I happened to be one of her favorite targets, it seemed. I muttered curses grumpily as I batted off excess moisture from the top of my head, stepping to the side with a shudder.

Aaaa-choo!

Glorious. Simply glorious. Best winter ever, really. I almost got trampled by people at Comiket a few weeks ago. My favorite character was drawn terribly in a game I had been waiting for. I trusted you, alphes, and you betrayed me by making my Sanae look hideous. I lost my favorite keychain and my other favorite keychain I had bought at the aforementioned event. And now, I'm getting the beginnings of frostbite. I swipe some sleet off a hanging branch and crush it in my Daiso gloves, throwing it down to the pavement with a growl.

Could this winter get any worse?

I feel numb everywhere. I didn't know that it was possible for even my neck to feel numb. My boots crunched in the ice and snow as I walked, gritting my teeth against the chilling air which my cap did nothing to shield me against. To think I was excited for winter when I was younger. Looking up to the sky, I found no solace in the glittering stars above me as I forged onwards. Pretty, sure, but they didn't make me feel any warmer. Bleh. Falling over didn't make things any better either.

Wait a minute. Goddamn-

I landed with the clatter of ice scattering around me as my hands slipped on the slippery ground and brought me down with another painful crack, my chin crashing into the pavement. Ow. Owowowow. Bad luck. Really bad luck. Though I probably should have looked where I was going. I gingerly picked myself off the ground, slowly getting back up onto my feet and brushing ice chips off my red knees. Those are gonna bruise, that's for sure. I sigh and look over my shoulder to see what I had tripped over. Oh, just a now-overturned box…

Of blonde children.

I was pretty sure that the whole neighborhood heard me when I yelled out, the flabbergasted strains of 'HOLY SHIT' echoing into the distance as I dropped down to my knees and dusted snow off the bodies. Abandoned foreign children? Homeless teenagers? Murder victims? Something that would get me arrested if the police came by right now? Yeah, the last one is probably the most likely. Oh god, they aren't breathing. What do I do. I'm too young to go to jail. I'm only fourteen, don't do this to me.

Okay, so they weren't really children, they looked about my age. They were blonde, with flawless skin and beautiful features. A boy and a girl who looked similar enough that they were probably twins or at least siblings, both of them were naked, with only bubble-wrap wrapped haphazardly around their bodies as if they were hastily-packaged products. I forced myself to focus on their faces. This was no time to get embarrassed. I shook the boy by the shoulder. "Hey, are you alright? You're not dead, are you? Please wake up!"

I almost screamed when the boy's lips parted slightly and a buzzer sound emitted from his throat. Like an error sound effect for a computer program. His eyes opened, a flat shade of blue with absolutely no light in them aside from the image of a white snowflake in the center of each.

They weren't human.

They weren't human. This may be a setup for a horror movie where they would wake up in the middle of the night and grow blades out from their fingers, slicing me apart as an offering to their android overlord in robot Hell. I may have suddenly become the protagonist of Chobits 2, or something, duped into having dubious romantic relationships with ridiculously human robots. What I was sure of, though, was that I couldn't just leave them out in the cold. Literally.

I pushed the blondes back into the box they had tumbled out from and stood up, my knees jelly as I bent down slightly and started to drag the box along. I don't know how long it took, my speed drastically reduced by the biting cold, my sore knees and the weight of two robots, but I got up to my doorstep. My fingers numb and trembling, I barely managed to unlock the gate and door with my keys. I heaved my cargo into the house, my lead arms taking about five tries to finally get the lights.

"I'm home." I called out, not expecting an answer. I live with my cousin, Takuya. He's a high school student studying at the nearby Morino High School, though he's a bit far from being a good role model for me He's always staying out late at LAN cafes with his friends, and leaving the apartment unattended. Sure, he's a coding and gaming prodigy, with pretty good grades despite never studying, but...yeah.

Maybe this place will be less lonely now, I thought as I fumbled with the keys again, locking up the house. The heating kicked in as I placed the keys by the phone, and I felt life return to my limbs. Wiggling my fingers and toes, I stared at our new house-guests from my seat on the bench near the door. Bits of sleet and snow fell and melted on the floor with each shake of my boots, my socks then dripping icy water. They didn't look any different, no color rushing back into their extremities and their faces remaining as serenely perfect as always. Wait, I spoke too soon. The snowflakes in the boy's eyes blinked into ticks, which then turned into empty battery symbols with crosses over them. Bemused, I padded my way over and crouched down, noticing that the girl's eyes were open with the same symbols in them. Do they have to be...recharged? How would one go about recharging a pair of ridiculously human-like robots?

I heard the sound of something flicking open from the box. On their wrists...slots? Peering closer at them, the slots were very much similar to the ones on my Nintendo DS. Weird. I ran to my room and quickly changed out of my soaked clothes, running back out in my pajamas with a pair of power adapters in my hands. Placing them on the coffee table, I knelt down by the pair again, dragging them out from their box and propping them up against the wall before carefully unwrapping them. I just managed to resist the urge to pop the bubble-wrap. Upon closer inspection, they were coated with a fine layer of built-up grime. Ew. I dusted off my hands. First order of operations: clean them. I dashed into the bathroom, retrieving a basin of warm water and a small towel. I'm not a nurse, and I had no idea how to properly give somebody a sponge bath, but it couldn't be that different from bathing myself. The pair somehow seemed to have organic skin and hair. I didn't want to check if their eyes were the same. I just avoided the open slots on their wrists. So strange, I thought as I dragged them over to the couch and pulled them onto it. They would be a nice surprise for Takuya when he got back, I thought with a smirk as I glanced over my shoulder at the door. It was snowing more now, little fragments of white floating down from the dark sky as I looked out the window. At least we were all safe from frostbite in here. Plugging the robots in, the battery symbols in their eyes turned into regular ones, filling up at snail's pace with the text '8hr' in the empty portion of the batteries. Figures that robots would take longer to charge than DSes.

I didn't stay out there waiting for them to finish recharging, of course. I went to sleep, like a normal human. Much unlike the robots outside.
