Sam slipped out of the motel room, dawn was just breaking and Dean wouldn't likely wake for a while. He knew Dean would be upset if he woke to find Sam gone, but he needed a little time to himself; time to think about the past and the road onward. Leaning back against Dean's beloved Impala once again, Sam watched the sun rise on another day and caught himself humming

The family business, Not a dream, but reality.
Another pile of ashes, more lives saved.
A purpose, if not truly to live for at least reason to carry on, lives were precious, helping others to live theirs and choose their own paths would be enough, at least for now.
Sam started humming again and then began singing softly off key as usual but what did it matter there wasn't anyone to hear. At least he was with Dean.
