Chapter One: Dumbledore's Promise
----
It was a cold, wet night and two people in long cloaks were meeting outside a forest, known as the other side of "The Dark Forest", one was a tall man with a very long silvery beard, and the other a smaller hooded woman holding a child. A small speck of gold shone around her neck. It appeared to be a locket. The rain was beating down all around them as they spoke.
"Dumbledore, he knows," exclaimed the woman.
"My child what are you going to do?" asked the one who she called Dumbledore.
"Dumbledore, take her, take my child, he'll come for her, he'll come and take her away, please you must, or else she'll die, you must promise me!"
"My dear Cathrean, I can't, she needs her mother more than ever."
"Dumbledore you must take her, I can not let her die, or be poisoned into thinking the same way as him, the same way as Tom, the same way as Voldemort!" She cried desperately.
Dumbledore saw a tall hooded man in the shadows. His body was covered by his cloak in which stood tall and proud, he saw within his grip a thin black piece of wood. His wand. It was the one Cathrean called Voldemort.
"Watch out!" shouted Dumbledore as green light came from behind a tree and hit Cathrean on the back. Cathrean let out a deafening scream and fell to the floor, already dead. Dumbledore grabbed her body and the child, and there he apparated (disappear in one place and return, in a matter of seconds, in another). He apparated to a place of safety, then he said two words to the dead body of Cathrean:
"I promise."
He laid Cathrean's dead, lifeless body there in the middle of the street outside what appeared to be a pub. He took the locket from around Cathrean's neck and put it in an envelope. He held the child out in front of him, speaking softly to her.
"Child your mother is dead, what can I do with you." He said and he held the child close to his chest, just as her mother used to do, and apparated once more.
----
Dumbledore made a near to impossible promise, especially when news reporters, such as Rita Skeeter, kept following him around, so he gave her to a family who he knew to keep her hidden, even though he knew she would not lead an easy life.
Mr. and Mrs Malfoy were semi-pleased to take her in, they only asked one question.
"Name?" said Mr. Malfoy.
"Teaiya. Take good care of her wont you?" Dumbledore replied.
"Of course. It will be different though, you must understand." Lied Mr. Malfoy.
"Indeed. I need you to do something for me, just as precaution. I need you to make a Vow, that you wont tell Lord Voldemort or any of his Death Eaters. Your wife, too."
"Is that really necessary? The Dark Lord is dead!" Exclaimed Mr. Malfoy.
"I am afraid it is necessary, I do not believe him to be dead. And to double check I'll be her secret keeper so no matter what no harm will come to her."
"Yes of course." Confirmed Mr. Malfoy.
Dumbledore waved his wand chanting something then he touched the baby's head with his wand and then his own.
"Now that's done I'm afraid I must go, spot of trouble to attend. Some students thought it would be funny to fill the water supply with laxatives." Said Dumbledore with a defined twinkle in his eye, and with that, he stowed away.
As he left he said "Don't tell Draco, ok? It's complicated enough, you understand."
"Of course. I wouldn't want to give anything away." Replied Mr. Malfoy.
