Darlene's Book Chapter 1: Confessions of a Tomboy

When I was younger I played practially every sport under the sun. Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, you name it, I played it. That was when me and my Dad had so much in common. I never in a million years dreamed that I'd turn out like my mother. But I did. I allways thought Becky would be like her. But now she's more like Aunt Jackie. Except she didn't allready have a kid before she got married. That was me. And believe me when I say this, everyone thought that would be Becky, they never thought in thier wildest dreams that I would be having kid before I got married. Let alone even having a kid at all. Becky's the first women in our family in a long time to get married without being knocked up first. I guess I almost kind of admire that about her. Anyway, the thing about being a girl who plays with boys can get tough when you start liking boys. Alot of the time they won't like you back. And when they do, you get extremly nervous about it not only because you like them, but because of the fact that you might cut them off because you don't want to ruin a good friendship. But believe me, sometimes taking a chance can pay off. That's how I met David. Only he was the first one to say anything about it, even though I had been feeling it for a long time. I almost didn't go out with him because he was my best friend and I was afraid of losing him. But then he said even if it didn't work out that we could still be friends, which I knew wasn't true. But the fact that he was willing to put aside his feelings for me just so that I would be happy was when I knew I had to give it a shot. And that shot paid off.
