A smug, drenched summer, rain carried its way on through the bleak landscape and tore through most of the gardens precious crops. The gardens luscious vegetable tops, green as the money in which we earned from them, washed away in the flash flood. My mother watched from the window, as did I; we watched our crops wash away and she sighed deeply. "Well, the hard work made no difference this year either son." She muttered under her breath, I could hear her faintly and looked away. I scanned the raindrops pouring down like parallel strings hanging from the sky. I suppose that rain could be a good thing, however for some that is never true. My mother and I have always worked hard on the garden, even before my father had died. The square of soft dirt has been the main attraction in our family. My blond hair hung over my eyes as I turned my attention to the front of our house. A seemingly cat silhouette ran across our front yard. "Mother…" I spoke in a soft tone as I kept my eyes on the figure. "A cat…I will bring it in." I stood and watched as my mother shrugged then strutted towards the door. I swung it open and stepped onto the soaked, muddy pavement; the cat leaped under my bright red car. I took slight steps toward the bumper and smiled softly. It looked like a kitten so I picked it up. Shocked, I found out that it was not a normal animal, not one that has been studied or identified yet as far as I knew. The animal had sleek black fur that spiked along it's back, and ears almost like one's of a Bobcat. The creature mewed for some time, as I sheltered its body under my navy sweatshirt. The fact that it was not a cat was a problem; my mother did not favor other animals in the house, non-the-less wild ones. So I decided to get in my car and drive to my house. The thing about my mother and I is that we rarely ever see one another, so today was a 'spend time with Mom day' for me.' I suppose that making it seem like I did not want to spend time with her was rude, on top of all her depression. However, the creature needed a home, somewhere that it would not be disowned. My house was the perfect place; so once I arrived I opened the car door, locked it, and walked into my front door. I introduced myself thoroughly to the animal first to make sure it understood my name. "I am Luka André, I am 19 and love animals such as yourself. I hope we could get along." It starred at me with ice blue eyes and mewed, almost as if it actually understood me. Now, I was never a person guy, I always had this understanding with animals that I never did with my own society.
The black fur of the animal seemed it could slice your hands if you slid them across. Since I was curious I decided to test my hypothesis, long and behold it was softer than silk. It mewed once more, cutely. I gulped, looked away from the creature and placed it down on the couch. "Now what is your name…" I paused and noticed a gleam from its neck. "You have a collar…awkward." I placed my hand on the collar and turned it, there was a name on it. "Detrain…" I spoke softly, the creature purred. "Master…" I jumped and looked at Detrain, "Y…you spoke?"
