"Isn't that the Monster Girl?" "Yeah, it's Kagu the Monster Girl! Run for it!"
Every night before she went to bed, Kagu wished on the stars so bright that her powers would disappear. Reason being: children her age teased her in Sei'an City for her powers, and she eventually grew to resent them.
But as much as she may and as much as she might, her wish to be a girl without Miko powers will not be granted tonight.
This was her one hundredth wish and Kagu had pretty much given up hope. True, she had the opportunity to become a Miko due to Miko Cho's offering, but her parents wanted her to be an actress. Either way, she was different.
On her white futon in a room illuminated by the pale moonlight was Kagu, hair down and under the pink blanket. She turned her head to the sliding door. The decision in regards to what path she wanted to take was keeping her up tonight. Both paths would keep her from being teased, but still...
She wanted to be called something else besides "monster girl".
A few days later, she made her choice: she was to become a child actress. And she was already making good progress as one. No longer was she Kagu the Monster Girl, but rather Kagu, the star of the stage.
In the audience was Miko Cho, who watched Kagu perform with some of her fellow actors. 'Kagu...' she thought. 'If this is your path, then so be it. But understand that one day, you'll find your powers to be a blessing rather than a curse.'
