This is a story that's based on the book"Alanna" by Tamora Pierce. It's my first time writing, so please be gentle on me
I knew what I wanted to be ever since I was a little girl. That day when the robbers came to our town and started tearing the place apart, killing the animals, burning down our homes, robbing the women in our village of their pride by raping them over and over, and then throwing them away like dirty pieces of clothing. Everybody were too afraid to do anything about them, they just huddled up in a group, praying for their lives. Until suddenly out of nowhere a group of knights appeared and started fighting the robbers. It was beautiful, the way they moved along with their horses as if they were intertwined and the way they held their swords as if it was an elongation of their arm. Their routine and grace with which they killed those skunks were mesmerizing, and from that moment I knew, deep down that this was what I wanted to be. A protector of the poor. A graceful and deathly weapon meant to look after those not able to look after themselves. Me, Shayn Smithson, knight of Tortall – it sounded damn good to me.
From thereon I started working hard, training unarmed combat, shooting with bow and arrow, running – basically everything a girl was allowed to do without people making a note about it. They could not find out what I was doing, they would not understand why. Girls were supposed to keep quiet, sow, get married and give birth to many strong sons. But not me, I was not going to just sit around waiting for my dad to choose which hillbilly I was to marry – not in a million years!
One day when I was in the middle of a training session, I became aware of the fact that I wasn't alone…
To be continued.
